Win Environmental Trophy at Can-Am Equine Show
Canadian Cowgirls
The Canadian Cowgirls Precision riding team from Chatham Kent Ont., are this year’s winner of the Can- Am/ Just Add Horses Environment Trophy. This award is presented annually at the London Ontario Can-Am Equine event to a stable or farm group who continue to help raise the environmental bar in the equine industry and involve youth to assist in this effort. While travelling extensively across North America with their horses, the team diligently work to adhere to the team’s environ- mental values, as well as the heath and welfare of them- selves and their horses.
Team Captain Terry Jenkins says “It is an honour for this outstanding group of 25 members to receive the Environmental award. The Canadian Cowgirls are role models to our fans and we strive to lead thru example.” Being in the spotlight is not new to Canadian Cow- girls. They have appeared before His Royal Highness Prince Charles and the Duchess Camilla, The Prince of India and, were featured on the Rick Mercer Report. The team has been awarded Best Mounted unit in the Cal-
gary Stampede Parade, The Kentucky Derby Parade and the Indy 500 Parade.

Most recently, the team has been invited to appear in the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadina California on New Years day. The team has been work- ing diligently to raise $75,000 needed to transport the horses and Cowgirls to the event. Since every horse must be decorated with live flowers, as a fundraising project, a rose can be purchased in honour or memory of some- one special for $10. That rose will be placed on a horse in the Rose Bowl Parade.

Rockwood Trail Riders Celebrate
This riding and showing season, Rockwood Trail Riders are celebrating their 50th anniversary season as a local horse club. RTR was started in April 1963 by two childhood friends and a small group of like-minded horse people, who, having no trailers, wanted to get together and have some fun competitions and trail rides. Our members are now spread from Toronto to London, Burlington to Penetanguishene To celebrate, the Trail Riders have added special touches to their regular schedule. The biggest pro- ject is the printing of a book consist- ing of memorable stories, opinions and family profiles. Contributions were made by current and former members and excerpts from the “Hoof Prints” newsletter. The book is titled “Horse Tails, Celebrating 50 Years of Rockwood Trail Rid- ers”.
August show will feature a Musical Ride in July by a participating stable and a “Cinqelle” – a precision ride by five women. The ever popular Trail Horse Trials in September will add a camp-over the night before along with an evening ride and corn roast.
