MAY 2012 THE RIDER /39 Epona PR March Photo Contest

Congratulations to the Epona PR March Photo Con- test winner! Co-Sponsored by The Rider! Kerry-Lynn and her Show Horse Always A Doll received a FREE ad design by Laurie Haugton. Her long list of their 2011 show accomplishments appear below.

Kerry-Lynn:

“What I would love the world to know about Always A Doll, AKA Cole, are his achievements in his first year with me. I would also like to thank JS Quarter Horses for making this possible, as well as my family for their con- tinuous support. Cole is a eight year old, black gelding and has the best personality I could have asked for in a horse. He loves to show, and always puts effort into what- ever he is doing at the time. He loves to learn new things, so at the beginning of 2011 we started to teach him showmanship. Since then he has learned a number of new skills, including pattern work and trail. You can find him enjoying life at JS Quarter

Notice to the Industry Testing for clenbuterol in Ontario Quarter Horses continues

Testing for clenbuterol contin- ues this racing season, and will include the lower Ontario Quarter Horse threshold levels introduced last year. This Ontario Racing Com- mission (ORC) initiative, introduced with the support of the Quarter Rac- ing Owners of Ontario Inc. (QROOI), complements the efforts of the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency (CPMA), which has included clenbu- rerol in its testing protocol for over 20 years. Clenbuterol is a bronchial dilator and is sold under the name Ventipulmin as an injectable sus- pension and oral syrup.

Trainers are reminded that it could take approximately 30 days for clenbuterol levels to fall below the minimum threshold levels that have been established - 200pg/ml or less in urine and 1 - 2 pg/ml in blood. The goal of the initiative is to elimi- nate any abuse, over-use, or non- therapeutic use of this drug, and when used, confirm that the drug has been legally obtained and correctly administered.

As noted in a Directive issued in August 2011, regulatory action for confirmed presence of clenbuterol will include:

- Disqualification of the horse from the race;

- Return and redistribution of all earnings from that race;

- the ORC investigation is complete.

- Horse made ineligible to race until: - owner produces a negative test result; and

note - Clenbuterol is a bronchial dila- tor and is sold under the name Ven- tipulmin (trademark of Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica) as an injectable suspension and oral syrup.
