QROOI News By Rik Hudson
An update on actions taken by the industry in answer to the Ontario Government’s actions on Horse Racing in Ontario.
To date, the industry has developed a number of initiatives to bring its situation to the attention rest of the province. This issue is more than simply a “track issue” or a “farm issue.” The indus- try has made its true effect on the province’s economy very well known. It is a “Main Street Ontario” issue.
A program has been established that includes a number of elements including but not limited to; contacting elected represen- tatives at the province’s legislature by every means possible; ral- lies at Queen’s Park – both industry specific rallies, and as part of the large general rally; collecting and formally submitting peti- tions to the legislature. Also, rallies at key MPP offices were held across the province as part of the overall industry initiative.
In addition to the industry actions, the QROOI is processing a survey where the Quarter Horse racing industry participants are asked to provide real economic data in relation to their racing operations. The goal of this survey is to determine up to date data showing racing’s impact on the province’s economy.
While all this “outside” activity happens, mares are foaling,
