6 This mountain bike route offers a reasonably

tough but picturesque off-road cycle (suitable for

children with some off-road experience) along quiet forest tracks, passing by the Craighall Dam. Neilston pad at 260 metres above sea level is a marvellous spot to take a breather and enjoy outstanding views over Glasgow. Bikes can be left to take the path which makes the short detour to the summit. The open countryside and wilder aspect of the terrain is home to roe deer, buzzard and heron.

1. From Neilston Railway Station turn right onto Kingston Road and cycle by Craig Road to reach a farm track on the left. Turn left from Kingston Road where the rough track meanders away from Neilston, with the countryside immediately opening out, to reach Craig of Neilston Farm.

2. 1 mile/1.5km Pass by the farm to reach a gate. Once through the gate, a track climbs gently past a wood, to a fork. Be aware there may be cows in the field. Take the right fork and continue along a stony track, with good views of Neilston Pad, passing through two gates. The track, which gives good mountain bike
