18 S tarting at Rouken Glen park this diverse cycle travels through beautiful Rouken Glen Park


where the Scotland’s largest and smallest birds the mute swan and the goldcrest can be found. The route visits the wonderful National Trust property of Greenbank Gardens near Clarkston. The striking Georgian house was built in 1763 although the ornamental gardens did not appear until the 1960’s. The National Trust were gifted the property in 1976 and now there are over 3700 species of plants within the garden, which is open throughout the year.


1. Facing Rouken Glen Garden Centre turn left into the park turning right when meeting the main track. Cycle gently uphill to the signpost indicating a right turn towards the boat pond. Continue clockwise by the pond past Boaters Café taking the first left away from the pond. Go left again, follow the track, dropping down through a gate at the junction of Davieland Road and Ayr Road (A77). If beginning from Whitecraigs Station start here.


2. 0.75 miles/1.25km Turn right onto Ayr Road, follow the marked cycle lane which climbs gradually through Newton Mearns for 1.75 miles, to Mearns Cross. Turn left into Eaglesham
