2. 0.5 miles/0.75km Go straight on into Ralston Road and continue to reach Springhill Road. To your right is Arthurlie Cross, an ecclesiastical sculpture dating from around the 11th century. Turn left into Springhill Road and here the road climbs by the striking Arthurlie House, which was built in 1780, and then climbs really steeply out of Barrhead, to the 5-ways junction.


3. 1.5 miles/2.5km Turn right onto Springfield Road, a minor road with some tight bends so watch out for traffic. One steepish climb grants a fine panorama across Glasgow. Eventually Springfield Road drops down into Neilston at Sykes Terrace to reach traffic lights. Continue over a bridge then turn right at a roundabout onto Kirktonfield Road, which climbs to Main Street. Turn left then left again onto High Street. Cycle by Neilston Railway Station, then turn left into Kirkton Road, which undulates through peaceful countryside to Springhill Road.


4. 4 miles/6.5km Turn right onto Springhill Road, from where a great run drops down through fantastic countryside. Once by picturesque Walton Dam, the single-

track road (which is now Craigton Road), undulates for 1.25 miles, the great views and cycling continuing, to reach the Dodside Road (B769).


5. 6 miles/9.5km Turn left and follow this B Road, traffic can be fast moving for on this miles slightly busier stretch of road for 0.5 miles then turn left into Glanderston Road. Take care when cycling along here as there are some tight bends but the views across Glasgow are incredible.


6. If returning to Barrhead station turn left cross a stone bridge with fine views to The Craigie then climb to reach Springhill Rd. Turn right and descend to 5 Ways Junction and Barrhead. To return to Balgray Carpark continue downhill to the Reservoir. The road descends to a junction. An easy stretch, with fine views of The Craigie, then reaches a steep climb to return to Springhill Road.
