16 This straightforward, enjoyable route is suitable

for families with traffic-confident children. The

quiet, country roads that surround the conservation village of Eaglesham make their way, with minimum of fuss, through attractive, open countryside, briefly entering South Lanarkshire at Thorntonhall, before descending back into East Renfrewshire at Waterfoot. The roads roll along nicely, with no steep climbs, and hold some lovely, expansive views across this segment of East Renfrewshire. Once by Waterfoot there is a short section of busier road to reach Floors Road from where a minor climb leads to the Humbie Road – the views across Glasgow from here are outstanding.

1. From Glasgow Road (B767) turn into Holehouse Road and descend gently by Eaglesham Cemetery. Here a tight bend (watch out for oncoming traffic) leads onto a single- track road. A steepish drop gives a good run through open countryside, passing by Holehouse Farm, then passes underneath the A726 to reach an old ford, which crosses the White Cart (after periods of heavy rain the river may be in spate making the ford awkward, or impossible, to cross).
