The Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum, located on the southern end of the boardwalk, showcases the city’s color- ful past with exhibits of shipwrecks, old- time beachwear, mermaid displays, recently updated sands from around the world, an aquarium room and a gift shop. One of its newest exhibits revolves around the story of Ocean City’s famous board- walk, while another exhibit currently in the works will explore the history of Ocean City’s surfing scene. During summer months, the museum offers free educa- tional programs.
Assateague Island is just a few minutes from Ocean City and is home to Assateague Island National Seashore, Assateague Island State Park and the wild ponies made famous in the novel Misty of Chincoteague. The island offers hiking, biking, fishing, clamming, crabbing, canoeing and kayaking opportunities. A new visitor center operated by the National Park Service is a must-visit stop offering a touch-tank, aquarium and other exhibits that enhance the island experience.
An array of shops line Ocean City’s three- mile boardwalk, including one of the newest - Quiet Storm, which features over 10,000 square feet of surfing apparel and beach fashion.
Nearby outlet stores include the Ocean City Factory Outlets, and the quaint near- by town of Berlin has antique shops and art galleries galore to browse and explore.
The Town of Ocean City offers numerous free events during the summer, including Movies on the Beach, Family Beach Olympics and concerts on the beach. A free concert series also will return this summer on Thursday evenings at Ocean City’s downtown bay front Sunset Park. On the north end, a Sunday evening con- cert series plays at the town’s scenic Northside Park, also situated on the bay.
