Macbryde Homes’ alternative to enclosing stairwells When Macbryde Homes embarked on design- ing a terrace of 21/2 storey homes in Llandudno Junction, they were faced with the problem of providing a cost effective and appropriate fire protection solution. MacBryde Homes was already aware of a solution, which would over- come the potential problems and facilitate the open plan design. The alternative was Automist from Plumis, which uses a high pressure pump to generate a fine water suppression mist from nozzles, which can be mounted under a stan-

dard monobloc mixing tap, stand alone on a work top, a wall or as in this case on the side of the staircase with the pump assembly hidden under the staircase.

FIRERAY 3000 Optical Beam Smoke Detector Fire Fighting Enterprises Ltd intro- duces the new FIRERAY 3000 end to end infrared optical beam smoke detector. All FIRERAY beam detectors are designed primarily for use in wide, open indoor spaces, and offer the benefit of only requiring small numbers of units to cover very large areas.

Installation is quick and easy and can be completed by a single operator thanks to a variety of aids and features. A visible targeting laser housed in the receiver head aids initial placement and setup, showing clearly the beam path and there- fore the necessary positioning for the units. During commissioning the LEDs on the heads also light up to help fine-tune the alignment path, showing the installer in which direction adjustment is needed.
