Reynaers at the heart of major regeneration project A number of Reynaers’ systems have been specified on a £160 million development in the Hackney area of London. The project consists of approximately 500 new homes, including affordable and family accommodation, shop and restaurant units, a new library and a brand new station for the East London line. The residential development was designed by architects, KDS Associates, and brought to life by Barratt Homes, in partnership with the London Borough of Hackney and the Lord Mayor of London’s Office. Reynaers CP155 sliding door system provides aesthetic appeal, as well as optimised thermal insulation and is widely used throughout the scheme. As is the Reynaers

CS86 HI window, which boasts outstanding weather performance, high insulation levels and increased safety. Optimisation of light penetration is achieved with the specification of the highly versatile Reynaers CW50 curtain wall façade.

Neaco’s bespoke design impresses

Neaco has worked closely with Sandwell Council to produce a bespoke balustrade and structural glass specification meeting special demands at Bearwood House, a development of 28 new Code four, affordable homes in Smethwick. Structural glass on the edge of a roof garden was installed at an angle and designed for extremely high load-bearing capability, to prevent chil- dren from attempting to climb over it. Steve Cockayne, designer at Sandwell Council, was impressed with Neaco’s efforts in helping to develop a practical solution: “Collaborating with Neaco has been an excellent experience. Together we produced the sloped structural glass design and the result is very satisfying. We are also very pleased with the overall specification, including the interior use of Neaco’s Timberline balustrade, which features aluminium rails powder coated with a reproduction of natural oak grain for a wood-effect aesthetic.” Neaco’s national sales manager, Richard Richardson-Derry, said: “Over the years Neaco have successfully worked with countless designers in developing bespoke solutions outside of our standard specifications.”

Redland launch thin leading edge Slate 10 range

Redland’s introduction of the new Slate 10 range marks an evolution of the company’s existing thin leading edge offer. Initial small works repairs to the existing aluminium windows at Friary House in Godalming, Surrey, turned into a £408,000 curtain walling contract for Structura UK Ltd. As the initial works progressed, Structura UK found many of the windows were leaking and draughty. Having advised and agreed on the complete replacement of the building’s façade, Structura UK manufactured, designed and installed, on time and on budget, more than 1,000 sq m of high performance, aluminium curtain walling with fixed floor to ceiling Sunguard vision glazing 28mm thick, and grey coloured ceramic frit spandrel panels with insulation behind. As a result, the two storey office building has been trans- formed by the curtain walling into a modern, bright, energy-efficient working environment. Says Dave Rickman of Structura UK: “We realised quite quickly that the building’s old window system was in a very poor state of repair. Using our considerable design resources and technical expertise we have been able to provide a long-term watertight solution incorporating an eye-catching con- temporary appearance to the façade.”
