Structural Elements
Roof safety systems must not be used without testing! Safetyworks & Solutions, a leading manufacturer of roof access and safety systems, are authorised to provide inspection and maintenance of systems in accordance with the appropriate HSE legislation. In order to ensure the continued safety of operatives and maintenance person- nel who have to access roof areas, it is a legal requirement that the roof safety systems are inspected regularly and re-certified annually. Safetyworks & Solutions personnel
are fully trained to undertake inspections, testing, and re-certification, and if so required, can supply and install replacement systems.

ROOFTOP PARKING – FAST
A fresh approach to rooftop parking has been taken at the new Westfield Stratford City with the innova- tive Pardak® tensioned-slab paving system. Around 15,000m2
of Pardak has been installed over an
inverted, well-insulated roof in open, upper levels directly over retail areas in the new centre. Using Pardak enabled the reinforced concrete slab with metal decking soffit to be waterproofed far more quickly than a conventional insulated slab, allowing
work both above and below to proceed sooner. Then, rigid insulation slabs were laid over the deck, before installation of the Pardak system by Zoontjens – trading as CityRoofs in the UK – working for waterproofing specialist BriggsAmasco.
Academic archway
A dramatic arch clad with Luvata’s Nordic Green™ copper, using long-strip installation techniques, is the new central focus to the 1960s Student Union Building at Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne. Luvata’s Nordic Green™ and Nordic Blue™ factory-applied patinas have been developed with properties and colours based on the same brochantite mineralogy
found in natural patinas all over the world. The copper is easily bent and formed, and there are no limitations on the length of pre-patinated copper sheet or strip because whole coils are treated on the production line, not just limited size sheets. This enables the long-strip installation technique.

Sureclad provides retail therapy at Trinity Walk
Sureclad ceramic granite ventilated cladding, supplied by Shackerley, is one of the most prominent external wall finishes installed throughout Trinity Walk, the City of Wakefield’s new 46,450m2
shopping centre. DLA, the masterplanners,
specified Shackerley’s ceramic granite façade cladding for exterior elevations at the perimeter of the centre and for many of the store and café frontages within the mall. The final colour scheme – comprising beige, grey, charcoal and copper coloured ceramic granite panels – was specified by Leslie Jones Architecture, brought on board by new owners when the development changed hands. The warm and neutral ceramic granite colour palette complements other façade fin- ishes employed in the centre, such as extruded terracotta and metallic panelling, and was selected to create a welcoming atmosphere and to reflect Wakefield’s urban landscape. Contrasting panels have been used to ‘frame’ individual store frontages and signage zones and to add visual interest to plain elevations. All Shackerley’s façades were installed by national roofing and cladding specialist contractor Roofdec, based in Rotherham.
RAISING STANDARDS & LOWERING COSTS
Premier Interlink (Waco UK Ltd) completed a con- tract worth nearly £8 million on time and on budget, as part of advanced works for a new super-hospital in North Bristol. The quick 24-week site programme was only achievable using the company’s modern methods of construction. Six buildings with over 5,000 m2
of
accommodation were built using 127 steel framed modules of the PremierPlus building system, some of which incorporated a new factory installed concrete
floor option, which meets HTM standards. This maximises acoustic dampening in high traffic areas such as plant rooms, MRI, X-ray and operating theatres. t 0800 316 0888
