The latest in intelligent door systems System 20, the latest automatic sliding door from Record (UK), is the first fully modular door system to offer interactive electronics and simply, user-friendly oper- ation. The system’s modular construction allows designers to specify a wide variety of door configurations, including standard sliding, telescopic, curved and angular, without the high cost of a bespoke oper- ating system. At the heart of System 20 is Record’s proven RIC 290 sensor, which uses both radar microwaves and active
infrared sensors to communicate pro-actively with the door control device. A remote control module is also available incorporating an easy-to-use graphic display, menu-led navigation and text in a choice of languages.

Building designers wishing to make the most of impressive scenery or landscape views can now take advantage of Roto’s Patio Life sliding door system. This unique hard- ware suite enables very large glass sizes, filling rooms with natural light whilst at the same time making remarkably easy work of sliding large, heavy door sashes. Patio Life is the next step on from a ‘lift and slide’ system. The Roto product negates the need for the ‘lift’ element with its mechanism that moves the gaskets in order to make the seal. The result is doors that slide with remarkable ease, even when at the maximum of 400kg. Sashes containing glazed units over 3 metres wide are possible. The threshold offers excellent thermal insulation, resulting in U-values low enough for the system to have been specified in Passive House projects.
