Heating & Ventilation Tyco

Raychem has introduced FrostGuard, its innovative new energy efficient heating cable kit to stop condensing boilers’ drainage pipes freezing. Cold tempera- tures can result in a major increase in frozen condensate drainage pipes and if the pipe is blocked it can stop the con- densate from flowing away therefore causing the boiler to shut off. Raychem FrostGuard is easily fixed either in or onto the condensate pipe to prevent it from freezing. It includes smart self-regulating

technology, which means in very cold conditions the heater cable produces more heat and in milder freezing conditions, less heat. The system offers freeze protection and energy efficiency.

Lowering energy bills for those without mains gas

Guardian Project Services is helping home owners without a mains gas supply reduce their energy bills while taking advantage of the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme. Guardian Project Service’s latest installation of an air source heat pump system at an extended Victorian cottage is expected to see a saving of around 40 per cent on the heating bills. Following an audit and review of various technologies available, Guardian Project Services designed a heat pump system

capable of not only heating their new and existing radiators, but supplying domes- tic hot water to the property at the same time. The indoor unit heats the water that circulates through conventional radiators. Thanks to the unique cascade technology that can heat the water temperature up to 80°C, no electric heater was needed to provide the heating comfort required.

Stelrad launches suave new ‘Caliente’ Stelrad Radiators has launched its new Caliente designer radiator range – fifteen different models that are ideal for adding that little extra ‘pizazz’ to any home. The Caliente, which is Spanish for ‘heat’, was first shown earlier in the year and named at the EcoBuild exhibition in a competition held for visitors to the show, on the stand. The winner of an iPad for her suggestion was Lynda Douglas from BCosy Heating in Barton-under-

Needwood in Staffordshire. The Caliente is a stylish tubular design and is available in horizontal, vertical, single and double tube versions. It has the high quality con- struction and paint finish that you would expect from a quality Stelrad radiator and it is widely stocked in merchants around the country.

Remote wireless switch for Slick® Kidde Fyrnetics has launched a brand new Remote Test & Hush (RTH) switch accessory for its new Slick® range of smoke and heat alarms for housing. The RTH switch is used to communicate with a new Slick® alarm, which might otherwise be difficult to access. It is particularly useful for elderly or disabled people, or where alarms are fitted on high ceilings. The RTH switch is simply wireless linked to a new Slick®

Wireless Alarm

Base and can be used to test that alarm. It can also be used to silence the linked alarm or all but the initiating

interconnected alarms. The unit is self-contained with an integral lithium battery and designed to operate reliably for 10 years under normal conditions. It is easy to set up and can be wall mounted with the bracket supplied, if required.

PTS warns installers of freezing conditions

The winter of 2010 was one of the coldest winters on record. This resulted in an unusu- ally high number of cases where the conden- sate drainage pipe on high efficiency boilers was freezing and causing temporary shut down – a serious issue for homeowners stranded in a cold home with no heating or hot water. Merchant PTS is warning installers that another cold winter is potentially on the horizon with similar problems and questions from householders expected to arise.

Following the debate that arose due to freezing condensate pipes in 2010, PTS is now urging installers to make the most of the guidance issued by the heat- ing and hot water industry council and leading manufacturers. Tel: 01455 551210 www.ptsplumbing.co.uk
