Nibe exhaust air heating for ‘zero carbon’ homes Swindon Borough Council recently com- pleted the building of 13 ‘zero carbon’ houses, bringing the national total for these super eco-homes to only 132. The energy conserving features and particularly the ulti- mate reduction of emissions to achieve ‘zero carbon’ status, are completed by the inclu- sion of an exhaust air recycling process designed by Nibe Energy Systems and powered by a Nibe F410 Heat Pump. The

theory behind Nibe exhaust air heating is simple, the air, carbon rich and fully heated by the ufch plus background warmth from human and other sources, is harvested at roof level before it reaches the ‘vented void’ ventilation system.

Stelrad Radiators

Stelrad Radiators’ range of low surface tem- perature radiators, both the LST Standard and the LST Plus options, offer the perfect solution for heating systems in buildings where vulner- able people need to be protected from the levels of surface heat emitted from a standard radiator – in particular children and older people. The LST ranges are the ideal solution for heating systems in nurseries and schools, in social housing developments and sheltered housing schemes, nursing and care homes,

doctors surgeries and hospitals. They have also received a warm response from the specifiers of heating systems in many commercial buildings.

Timoleon takes care of new farm’s heating Northcombe Farm, situated in deepest Devon, has an absolutely brand new farmhouse. The building consists of a two-storey two bedroom dwelling attached to a single storey 180 square metres office. Underfloor central heating was specified throughout and Timoleon Ltd, Exeter based and so ideally situated for the Northcombe Farm project, was called upon for the design, manufacture,

and supply of all the necessary components for the system. Timoleon’s holistic approach to home heating was much in keeping with the architect’s aim of creat- ing a total energy effective package for the new home and office combination.

Helping meet tomorrow’s environmental targets today Wilo has launched the Wilo-Stratos GIGA here in the UK. It’s another highly efficient pump product – the first high efficiency glanded pump – and it’s targeted specifically at the building services and industry sectors. The Wilo-Stratos GIGA offers building designers, specifiers and architects the chance to easily optimise the energy costs and environmental balance of a building or industrial complex. The figures associated with the new Wilo-Stratos GIGA are quite staggering. Due to the combination of new hydraulics with a new highly efficient drive concept the Wilo-Stratos GIGA offers major energy saving ben- efits. Specifying the GIGA for your projects will result in a

saving of emissions amounting to approximately 8,000 kg CO2 per year as well as saving up to £70,000 in electricity costs per pump installed over a 15 year lifecycle.

A more comfortable wait in hospital! The design of Peterborough’s new multi million pound city hospital has not only delivered a better health service to the public, but has given the patrons a more comfortable wait in the reception area with simultaneous underfloor heating and cooling. Thermo-Floor were contracted by Mercury Engineering for the project. Neil Evans, general manager of Thermo-Floor, comments; “Simultaneous underfloor heating and cooling is made possible as a result of the research and development carried out by our team in the Netherlands to supply a unique manifold, the RUW-K. This manifold works with both a heat and cooling source, for example a boiler and a chiller. This complete solution

ensures the waiting area is not affected by solar gain from the glass roofed atrium maintaining the room temperature. It is clear the benefit of our products can meet the demanding specifications and green agenda of this industry”.

Trox fan coil units a cool solution for Central Saint Giles Trox fan coil units have been selected for Central Saint Giles, a striking new mixed- use development in central London. Incorporating energy efficient motors and featuring customised jet nozzle and grille designs, the fan coil units meet the extremely high performance requirements of the consultant at the same time as achieving the architect’s intentions for the visual impact of the space. Nick Howard,

key account manager of Trox UK, commented, “The technical requirements for the equipment were extremely stringent [...but] our testing facilities are designed specifically to meet this need, and ongoing investment in our manufacturing capa- bilities has meant that we are ideally positioned to create bespoke designs cost- effectively and within sensible leadtimes.”
