External Fixtures

Lancashire school’s eco-solution for extension Youngsters from the Lomeshaye Road school have swapped the classroom for the construction site to see for themselves how their new extension is coming along. The children have been introduced to the two main building components: Wienerberger’s Porotherm thermal clay blocks and Second Nature’s natural insulations, sheep’s wool Thermafleece and Edenbloc recycled carpets. Designer, Emma Palmer, said: “This is a chance for the children to get hands on with the products and understand that no matter how

modern the buildings around them are, they can be built using the most simple, natural ingredients. It’s great that they’re getting the chance to touch and feel the raw materials that are going into building their new school.” The Porotherm construction system is being used for cavity and external walls which will be part rendered, part timber clad.

 Yale Encloser from VBH

VBH (GB) has added the Yale Encloser enhanced window security lock to its range. VBH advise that Encloser’s strength lies in the fact that each locking point consists of two bi-directional mushrooms that close towards each other into both ends of a single mushroom bolt striker. This arrangement pro- duces an extremely strong connection that helps Encloser to conform to the require-

ments of BS7950 and, consequently, gain its Secured by Design licence. Encloser is available in seven lengths to fit sashes from 270 – 1,400mm but, according to VBH, the main benefit is that it is a single component that is as quick and easy to fit as a standard espagnolette but its security levels match those of a shootbolt.

LOW CARBON FULLY RECYCLED WINDOWS

Advanced performance thermally efficient windows, featuring frames manufactured solely from recycled PVC-U, have been supplied to a Birmingham shel- tered housing scheme. Manufactured by Framexpress and installed by contractor, Berben Group, 128 recy- cled windows were specified by Yardley Great Trust at its Foliot Fields site, a supported living scheme for older people. Made using the new recycled low carbon RECO22 window framing system from Profile 22,

the carbon footprint of the extruded window profile is just six per cent of that man- ufactured using virgin material. As residents remained in occupancy throughout the project, full consultation with them and close working between partners formed a central tenet of project delivery.

Neaco balconies are an ideal fit at Malpas Court

Neaco’s Clearview range of balconies has been extensively specified at Malpas Court. Featuring bespoke adaptations, including an etching design on their glass panels, Clearview Juliet balconies have been installed throughout the complex of fifty contemporary one and two bedroom apartments. “The extensive Clearview specification at Malpas Court reflects the popularity of pre-fabricated balcony systems, which can provide an appealing finishing touch to developments,” said Neaco’s national sales manager, Richard Richardson-Derry. “Our Clearview Juliet balconies represent an attractive design option, which also offers an environmen- tally friendly solution with low energy construction and minimal material waste as all manufacture takes place off site.” The Clearview Juliet range offers the same high architectural aesthetic qualities that characterise all other systems in Neaco’s range, including the easy to install connection of modular components, which require no unsightly external fixtures or welding for assembly. Specifiers can choose from smoked or clear glass infills with rails precision engineered in alu- minum nylon powder coated in a wide variety of solid or metallic colours.
