Heritage
Delving into Surrey’s past is a truly fascinating way to immerse yourself in the area. Spending an hour or more in any of the local museums (see page 31) will unlock times gone by and reveal how these places have been shaped by historic events. Many areas offer guided tours by experience guides who bring the local area to life. Tours vary from Ghost Tours, to strolls around the town taking all the hidden signs of the past. Learn about life in medieval times and famous (and infamous!) past residents – from Kings to scoundrels, industrialists to artists.
Don’t miss the National Trust’s Dapdune Wharf and Shalford Mill, explore Brooklands Museum and step back in time at the Rural Life Centre. Many libraries, museums and galleries are also information points and will be able to suggest other attractions in the area you can visit.
