Dear Chadwick Community Members:
My greatest thanks to all of you who chose to advance Chadwick’s mission through your investment of time and resources in 2010-11. Chadwick is fortunate in having numerous strong leaders within our extended school community, making this year a successful one on many levels. Under the able leadership of Annual Fund
Parent Co-chairs Nick Richardson and Paul Wolf, parent giving to the Annual Fund increased in both participation and total dollars; additionally, alumni giving increased for the third consecutive year. Our parent organization leaders also outdid themselves in 2010-11, raising substantial funds in support of the school while also managing many of the 75th anniversary events and celebrations that brought all generations of the close-knit Chadwick Community together. Under the leadership of Headmaster Ted
Hill, Chadwick successfully completed the required Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) self study and reaccreditation process, receiving a full and unqualified six- year accreditation. Tis vote of confidence in Chadwick’s continued commitment to its mission of developing academic excellence and exemplary character within a supportive community of learners was heartening. Developing and finalizing the new Chadwick
strategic plan has been one of the Board of Trustees’ highest priorities over the last year, and I am happy to report that we are nearing the completion of that process. Te final strategic plan developed under the leadership of Trustee and Strategic Planning Committee Chair Ruth MacFarlane reflects input from all Chadwick constituencies as well as the recommendations of the WASC reaccreditation team. I look forward to presenting the strategic plan to the Chadwick Community once it has been formally adopted. In keeping with Chadwick’s mission of
academic excellence, the school continues to expand its course offerings, offering Mandarin for the first time for Village students as well as a second level of Spanish. Te Upper School added several new courses to the curriculum including robotics engineering, Biology 2: Brain and Behavior, American studies (an interdisciplinary course in American history and literature), and an advanced integrated fine arts course, Concepts in Art. Teachers throughout Chadwick continue to
identify and develop interdisciplinary learning opportunities both within and across divisions and campuses, in order to maximize the benefits of our K-12 educational structure, our global reach, and our full spectrum of resources and facilities. Tose facilities were further enhanced this year with the addition of two new Upper School classrooms fronting Vanderlip Lawn,

installation of age-appropriate playground equipment in the Village Primary space, and, thanks to a generous anonymous friend of Chadwick, a dedicated robotics engineering classroom and laboratory that has allowed us to offer robotics as an accredited science course rather than a co-curricular activity. Finally, Chadwick International completed
a very successful first year, and our students have begun to work together via our Cisco Telepresence, e-mail, and the Internet. Chadwick School seventh-grade English students recently collaborated with CI English students on a literature project, gaining valuable insight into our respective cultures and the challenges in integrating multiple perspectives. Five sixth- grade exchange students from CI are spending the year on the Palos Verdes campus, where their enthusiasm and openness to all things American has been a wonderful introduction to the possibilities of inter-campus exchanges. None of these accomplishments would be
possible without the support and commitment of all of the Chadwick community. Please accept my gratitude on behalf of the Board for your ongoing friendship and generosity.
Sincerely,
Board of Trustees 2010– 2011
