Landscaping DEC 2011 SPN

The installation of Flexflooring’s RubbaFLEX safer surface transformed
a tired pool surround originally consisting of patio slabs
In order to install RubbaFLEX, the slabs were lifted and removed, allowing the area to be screeded. This provided a new stable base for RubbaFLEX and increased the size of the pool surround in the process. The coping stones were also re-laid and jet washed, allowing Flexflooring to install RubbaFLEX over the cantilever of the coping to the top of the liner lock. Continuing the RubbaFLEX floor over the coping as well as the screeded pool surround creates a totally seamless look, which is unusual yet appealing. Simon Hubble, Flexflooring’s director commented: “Our RubbaFLEX product, can be trowelled both horizontally and vertically making it one of the most versatile safety surfaces available on the market. In this case, it offered our client a viable alternative to installing expensive new coping stones.”
On completion Flexflooring’s clients are left with a flawless surface, which looks great and is slip resistant when both wet and dry.
HERITAGE KNOW THAT LUXURY COMES FIRST
Brian Andrews, Managing Director of Heritage Pools says that when it comes to landscaping it’s often a case of the pool owner committing fully. “Pool features are an area where clients don’t hold back and 2012 looks set to see this trend increase. Many clients feel that if they are having a pool, they want all the whistles and bells and why not? Interestingly, many clients are moving their spa feature into the main pool with neck and back jets, volcanoes and water spouts to water slides. Many are choosing not to have a separate spa pool, a trend that is on the increase in commercial and private pools. Features create a luxury feel and ensure that any pool is then multifunctional and not just for swimming. “Tiles are becoming very interesting, as many people are moving away from natural stone back to straightforward, blue ceramic tiles. This is partly because some of the natural stones just don’t stand up to pool usage, despite some manufacturer claims, and partly because people
are beginning to want colour again in their pools. Large format porcelain or ceramic tiles increasingly the choice of clients and whilst they are not necessarily cheaper, they are less maintenance and give a great finish to the pool. Sometimes, natural stone just makes the water look uninviting and the black slate lined pools of 2011 are certainly not on the agenda for most clients in 2012.
Heritage sees an increasing trend for larger outbuildings next to pools that also contain saunas and steam rooms.
“Pool buildings are much more substantial buildings in 2012 than the previous sheds to contain the pool plant equipment. Proper changing rooms, conservatory style relaxation areas and sun terraces are all beautiful additions to pools that clients are increasingly demanding and add to the overall experience of pool ownership.
“Larger outdoor pools are a trend on the increase. Interestingly, this is partly because clients desire for exercise, but also for family fun.”
