INNOVATOR TAKES ON A FRESH CHALLENGE IN WATER TREATMENT
Max Cole, an innovator in water disinfection for over 20 years, has joined Gaffey Technical Services Ltd to spearhead new advances in the water treatment industry.
Max, 42, founded and developed Proton Water Services Ltd, specialists in electro-chlorination. He is now utilising his considerable product development and production expertise to help Gaffey enhance and extend their range of products and services.
Max’s initial focus will be on bringing the new Hyprolyser electro- chlorinator to market that has been developed by Gaffey in the north east, which this year celebrates 25 years in the water treatment industry. The new water disinfection system has been built around the water industry’s operational requirements for good health and safety standards, ease of use, supreme reliability and low maintenance costs.
As Max explains: “I’ve supplied water treatment solutions to many companies over the years, and I am sure they will welcome new products like the Hyprolyser that offer new affordable disinfection technology to the water treatment market.” Gaffey have made a strategic change to their business by putting more focus on manufacturing and searching for new generation of water treatment products.

Jeff Hawkins CERTIKIN’S TRIO IN EXAM SUCCESSES
The Certikin commercial division certainly know their flow rates from their O-rings – not only has Manager, Steve Nelson, completed his MBA from Warwick University this summer but Technical Sales Advisor Craig Williamson recently joined his commercial colleague, Jeff Hawkins and Steve in passing his ISPE exams. Steve, who has worked at Certikin for eight years and received his MBA in February, passed his ISPE exams in 2005 for which he won the Jim Johnson Filtration Shield for best filtration paper. As Commercial Sales Manager, it is Steve’s job to look after all the large swimming pools
projects. This includes sauna, steam, spas and water features such as flumes and Play Gear pool equipment so it’s a very demanding job.
Jeff Hawkins has been with Certikin for four years, having managed a small leisure centre complex for 11 years, and became an ISPE member in June 2010. Having started in the Pools Division, he has excellent technical know-how and an extensive knowledge of Certikin’s large product portfolio. He moved to Certikn’s Commercial Division in 2009 where he holds the position of Technical Sales Advisor.
Completing the hat trick, Craig Williamson passed his ISPE exams this year. He has been with the company for 11 years and during that time he has worked in many areas including the Warehouse, Export and CertiChem.
As
Commercial Sales Advisor, Craig looks after the day-to-day detailed commercial system requirements of Certikin’s customers including quotations and managing some of the commercial projects.
Craig says: “I enjoy working as part of a close team and the challenges that each day brings, as no two enquiries are the same.”
DOLF IS A HAPPY MAN NOW PASSION SPAS HAVE SALES ‘LIFT OFF’
Dolf Nieland from Passion Spas has a lot to be pleased with when he looks back on 2011.
“It has been an unbelievable time for us since SPATEX earlier this year,” said the Dutch based boss of the spa range which was launched in the UK two years ago and which now seems to have found its feet.
“Last year was disappointing,” said Dolf.” We only sold about 50 spas. Now our sales are unbelievable. We have moved from just two or three dealers to 25 dealers. I think we are now trusted in the UK and that makes a great difference. I think there was a lot of uncertainty about us and perhaps people were not sure of what we were bringing to the market.” Passion Spas certainly now have a growing dealer network within the UK, having been established as one of Central Europe’s largest hot tub suppliers.
“We are proud to offer the best in
design and function into the UK market for very reasonable prices,” he added.
Passion Spas has been in operation for 15 years but it was only two years ago when they added Britain to their European sales markets.
David Wright handles sales and marketing in the UK for the range and things have turned round. Dolf says he wants to look after dealers and make sure there is a good margin for them.
“Our spas are high quality at a great price, offer the dealers really good margins and are always in stock. We have worked hard at getting the dealers and the customers to trust us and our products and it is paying off in a remarkable way.”
The Pure Spas range, he says, offers value for money, but without scrimping on quality or style. “We keep it simple, offer one

colour with a grey cabinet but the product is always available, always in stock and even at £3,999 there’s a good margin still for the dealer. “I am working on a new spas range which will be available in Brighton in February. It’s something we are excited about and will round off a great 12 months for us.”
