The impressive Killy Helvin Hotel and Health Club in Enniskillen by Premier Gunite
The demands of Alton Towers needed the flexibility of Premier Gunite
enclosures foundations. SCS not only took on the job they completed the work within budget and cut down anticipated construction time by a full six weeks. David Bland comments: “Both the client and the building contractor were extremely pleased to see the project gainfully progress in such a short space of time, saving them both much valuable time and effort.”
The company is able to spray concrete to that of standard swimming pool dimensions, or free- form design projects. SCS also have a vast experience in not only spraying the pool shell, but also the balance tanks, cover caves, counter- current units, spa pools, skimmer pools and infinity edges. SCS’s sprayed concrete pool shell produces a monolithic, extremely strong concrete structure which is particularly suited to pool construction and provides a fast, efficient build that is also cost-effective.
The Betaloc™ dry build process from Fairlocks Pool Products is designed for vertical and horizontal reinforcement, creating excessive strength both compressively and laterally, which can be used for more demanding projects together with general everyday constructional needs.
Dry building means that when stacking the
blocks there is no need to mortar the joints together, thus saving time and extra cost implications. The basic fact is that not so skilled persons on site can build footings, foundations and many other applications using the Betaloc™ Blocks while skilled masons can concentrate on other areas of the project, creating a faster rate of construction.
Betaloc™ Blocks are 450mm long x 225mm wide and high, each block weighs approx 20kg, which conforms to the HSE guidelines for single man repetitive lifting. Although Betaloc™ Blocks are lighter than most conventional hollow blocks and clearly more versatile, they can still accomplish minimum compression strength of 7.3N/mm². The first course of Betaloc™ Blocks must be set on a bed of mortar with the vertical re-bars in place as with any other conventional hollow block, but from there, they can be stacked dry up to the required height, laying the horizontal re- bars in place before starting a new course. When the wall has reached the desired height and is plumb, it is ready for the concrete to be poured as you would a normal hollow concrete block construction. The concrete then falls down the cavities to ensure there is no segregation, which
in turn produces a wall with a magnitude of lateral and compressive strength. Well built, endurable and versatile concrete pools are as desirable an asset as they ever were. Those building them have developed vast experience and engineering skills which through word of mouth and spectacular finished pools still set the standard for excellence. spn
