As SPATEX heads for its 16th birthday in Brighton in 2012, the organisers of the trade exhibition are determined to pack the event with more innovation than has been seen for a number of years.

These will include a new wellness area, special focus on new products in a dedicated exhibition space and a scheme to make it easier for visitors to take advantage of manufacturers offering discounts at the show.

SPATEX 2012 runs from 4 to 6 February and is heading for a sell out. More than 50 ground-breaking new products were showcased at SPATEX 2011 and there’s confidence the figure will be exceeded for the 2012 event.

SPATEX organiser Michele Bridle said: “If you are on a busy schedule, there is nowhere in the UK where so much can be seen in such a short space of time. For architects, specifiers and designers, SPATEX

SCP MAKES ANOTHER EUROPEAN ACQUISITION

Leading international pool and spa products distributor SCP Europe has completed the acquisition of Poolway GmbH, a German distribution company which includes a production unit for above-ground and in-ground pools. It is the latest in a number of acquisitions for the SCP brand and the deal was completed in between the Piscina and Aquanale autumn trade shows.

Sylvia Monfort, Managing Director of SCP Europe said: “The acquisition is in line with the geographical expansion plan of SCP Europe. “Poolway is a sound company and

its management, dealing in the distribution of pool materials and equipment for over 10 years, is very professional and dynamic.” The newly formed business which will be known as SCP Germany GmbH, recently showed a selection of its own manufactured products plus a range of products from Hayward, Pentair and Proflex at Aquanale.

“SCP Germany will be able to build great synergy with SCP Benelux, and is a perfect bridgehead for our expansion in Eastern Europe, given its proximity to the Czech Republic and Poland,” added Monfort.

SCOTTISH POOL CLOSED AFTER CRYPTOSPORIDIOSIS SCARE

A popular swimming pool was closed for over two weeks as health bosses waited for the results of tests on the water quality after it was discovered that two people with the cryptosporidiosis bug had used the pool.

Renfrewshire Leisure Ltd, the management trust which runs all local leisure centres , voluntarily shut down the Johnstone baths pool. Tests were being carried out on water samples to determine whether it was the source of the bug and the baths were due to remain closed until the results were known. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s public health consultant, Dr Syed Ahmed, said: “We are continuing to investigate if there are any other sources of infection for these two cases. There have been no new cases of cryptosporidiosis in the Renfrewshire area and the confirmed cases have fully recovered.”

The cases were not being treated as an outbreak but health officials worked with Renfrewshire Council’s environmental services team and Health Protection Scotland to investigate any possible links between them.

A spokesman for Renfrewshire Leisure Ltd said: “Two people have recently become ill with cryptosporidiosis and tests are being carried out to establish if there is any link with Johnstone swimming pool. “As a precautionary measure and in accordance with our procedures, we have taken swift action and temporarily closed the pool while tests are carried out.”
