www.swimmingpoolnews.co.uk IN BRIEF
SWIMMING A TEENAGE TREND FOR 2012 David Lloyd Leisure has identified fitness swimming for teenagers as a major trend for 2012.
The company, one of Europe’s top leisure groups with 150 pools located in leisure centres, half of them indoors, predicts swimming will be a significant area of growth.
As a result, the group has launched Fitness Into Teens (for members aged 11-plus), recognising many children drop out of regular exercise when they hit their teens. FIT includes multi-aquatics
– helping 11 to 14-year-olds attain the best swimming qualifications approved by the Amateur Swimming Association and featuring activities ranging from water sports to survival, water polo and endurance swimming.
OPINIONS SOUGHT FOR SWIMMING FACILITIES Swimming pool owners, operators and managers throughout the UK have been asked to take part in a survey by the ASA and British Swimming to plan the development of swimming facilities beyond 2012. The survey is one
component of a nationwide consultation to ensure that the next four years strategy from 2013 to 2017 reflects the needs for swimmers and for pools. An ASA spokesman said: “The response we get from pool managers is perhaps the most important aspect of our research because they are the ones who can see what is happening day to day in the pools and what more needs to be done.”

AQUAMAT LAUNCHES POOL COVER FINANCE PACKAGE
Aquamat, the leading supplier of swimming pool covers, has launched a finance package to allow commercial pool owners and managers to replace a pool cover and make immediate energy and cost savings.
Aquamat can provide an installed 25m by 7.6m wide x 6mm thick high-density foam cover with an electric roller for £8,500. Under Aquamat’s leasing package, the costs would be £196 per month with an energy saving per month of £924 producing net savings of £728 per month equating to a net annual saving of £8,736. Aquamat covers are made from heavy-duty closed cell polyethylene foam which retains pool heat highly efficiently. Heat loss from an uncovered indoor pool has been calculated at costing 2.5p of energy per square metre, per hour. Payback or return on investment by installing an efficient pool heat retention cover can be as little as 12 months.
For some companies and organisations says Aquamat, it will be possible to set the costs against profits as a capital allowance. There is also the saving to the environment through the reduction in carbon so helping organisations to meet their carbon targets. Aquamat products are designed and manufactured in-house. Reel systems are included, either fully
electric, gearbox assisted, or even a manual process for efficient pool covering and uncovering on a daily basis and to reduce the risk of damage to covers.
