English forTeaching The course covers all aspects of academic writing and presentation skills which will enable you to apply for teaching courses such as Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) or PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education). This course prepares you for participating in Higher Education as it develops essay writing, reports and research skills. You are taught how to write in a critical manner analysing the data in an objective way. Successful completion of the course gives you a Level 2 Literacy qualification.

Preparing toTeach in the Lifelong
Learning Sector The purpose of the qualification is to provide an introduction to teaching in the adult learning/ vocational sector, for all new entrants to the sector. The aim is to equip new teachers with the practical skills and knowledge they need to perform their role. The emphasis of this course is on developing skills relating to running effective groups using relevant resources to engage learners - with the focus being on using ICT.
Additional English language classes are available to provide further support for international students.
Entry requirements: English and Maths at level 2. IELTS requirements: 5.5 (minimum 5.0 in writing)

Certificate in English LanguageTeaching
toAdults (CELTA) CELTA is the initial qualification to become an ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) teacher either in Further Education, Community settings or private language schools in the UK or overseas. The course is aimed at people who would like to teach ESOL but have no or little experience of teaching it. It is also suitable for experienced teachers of other subjects who would like to retrain in this specialised field. Teaching is through lectures, seminars, workshops, discussion, pair and group work, video and computers, practical teaching and classroom observations of experienced ESOL teachers.
An important part of this course is the focus on teaching real classes; the duration of the teaching increases as you become more confident. After each session there is feedback on further developing aspects such as teaching and learning strategies, questioning skills and constantly checking for understanding.
Entry requirements: You must be at least 20 years old and be educated to at least university entrance standard, (A Level or equivalent) and have a high level of competence in English, both written and spoken. Successful applicants are invited to an interview and need to pass a language awareness test.

We run this course as a 4-week intensive option, from June – July (5 days a week from 9am – 5pm) and as a part-time option one day a week for 22 weeks. Available for groups on bespoke arrangements.
