Whois an international / overseas student? An overseas student is a person with non European Union (EU) status and refers to any person who has no right of residence within the EU or someone who has not resided within the EU for the previous three years to the relevant date of 1 September, 1 January or 1 April (whichever is closest to the start of the course).


Students with non European Union Status include:


• Students who do not have permission to remain in the country.


• Students who do not have a right of residency


• Students who have not been given Humanitarian Protection.


• Students who have been resident for purposes of study or education on an educational visa.


• Students with non-European Union residential status who have been married for less than one year to a person with three years European Union residential status (please note that married students must also have lived in the EU for one year prior to starting the course).


Who is a home student? A home student is any person who has European Union (EU) status and refers to any person who has a right of residence within the EU and who has resided within the EU for the previous three years to the relevant date of 1 September, 1 January or 1 April (whichever is closest to the start of the course).


When do I pay the tuition fees? Tuition fees are paid in full and in advance. When you receive your unconditional offer, you will be asked to pay the full cost of the first year of your course before you can be issued a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) letter.


Can I receive scholarship fromthe college? Hackney Community College does not provide financial sponsorship to overseas students. All overseas students are expected to demonstrate that they will be able to pay for their course fees and all associated living costs in the UK (please see the requirements for a Tier 4 visa on http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk).


Can I bring my dependants? Students who are studying courses of six months or less will no longer be entitled to bring their dependants with them to the UK.


Can I work and study? Students studying courses below degree level will only be permitted to work 10 hours per week.
