Art and Design BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma
inArt and Design This two-year course allows you to study a broad range of two and three dimensional art disciplines representing the major career pathways in art and design – leading to increased specialisation in your chosen subject in the second year. You will build skills in the use of the visual language through subjects such as drawing, painting, printmaking, fashion and textiles, sculpture, 3-D design, graphic design and digital media. We place a strong emphasis on developing ideas and engagement with historical and contemporary art practice – with visits to museums and galleries and the opportunity to participate in ‘live’ projects with professional art practitioners as well as a study trip abroad.
Entry requirements: 4 GCSEs at grade A–C or equivalent. Plus, in addition to showing a genuine interest in the subject, you will need to show - an electronic portfolio of your work or a website link that shows examples of your artwork.
IELTS requirements: 5.5 (minimum 5.0 in writing)
Possible next steps: Art and Design degree and HND courses such as: graphic design, product design, textile design, fine art, interactive media and interior design.

BTEC Level 3 Foundation
inArt and Design This higher level, one-year programme, prepares you for entry to degree level courses in Art and Design. You explore, with guidance from your tutor, your area of interest chosen from: fine art (drawing, painting and sculpture); communication (graphic design, illustration, photography and multi-media); or design (ceramics, metal, textiles, fashion and product design). There is a strong emphasis on the development of ideas and engagement with contemporary art practice and you will have the opportunity to participate in ‘live’ projects working with professional art practitioners as well as a study trip abroad. Time will be spent throughout the year building up a portfolio of work which will enable you to go onto your chosen Higher Education course.
Entry requirements: BTEC National Certificate or Diploma – or AS/A2 Level in Art and Design, and supporting GCSE passes at grade A–C or equivalent. You also need to show a good quality electronic portfolio of your work or a website link that shows examples of your artwork.
IELTS requirements: 5.5 (minimum 5.0 in writing)

HCC’s Art and Design students showcased an outstanding exhibition of work at the Open Kitchen, Bar & Restaurant in Hoxton. The impressive collection of images was the end product of a collaborative project with Autograph, a local arts charity. The powerful pictures were produced with the help of an acclaimed artist and were widely appreciated by art critics, staff, family and friends.
