BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma
in Health and Social Care This is a vocationally-related qualification which covers the main themes of work in the sector and is equivalent to one A Level. Students also study English language, Maths and Science to ensure they have the entry requirements for University. After this course students who achieve a merit and have good attendance and attitude can progress to the BTEC Diploma level 3 and gain UCAS points equivalent to 2 A Levels.
Entry requirements: College assessment / merit at level 2 or appropriate equivalent qualification.
IELTS requirements: 5.5 (minimum 5.0 in writing)
Possible next steps: Higher Education, when supported by other A Level or level 3 qualifications.
Length of course (weeks): 36 Hours per week: 18
Edexcel BTEC Level 4 HNC/HND Diploma
in Health and Social Care (QCF) This in-depth course follows on from level 3 qualifications in health and social care and will prepare you for supervisory or managerial roles in the sector. Theoretical aspects covered include sociological contexts, influencing factors, social policy and psychology in health and social care. More practical areas focus on health and safety, physiological principles, partnership working and empowering users. For aspiring managers, the modules on human resources and finance management are a must.
Entry requirements: Level 3 qualification (merit as a minimum) from an associated course or appropriate equivalent qualification.
IELTS requirements: 5.5 (minimum 5.0 in writing) Possible next steps: Degree or employment
Length of course (weeks): 36 for HNC and a further 36 for HND. Hours per week: 16
