Wildemann says that the use of PDAs, smartphones, and now the iPad have pro- vided a portable, flexible approach to things like registration, scheduling, con- tent delivery and audience interactivity. But smartphones, tablet computers and mobile apps aren't the only technologies that are providing event attendees with instant gratification, he adds.

and much easier to 'do more with less.í The ability to program multiple sound and lighting scenarios that can change instantly has expanded the boundaries of creativity, as well. If it can be imagined and created on a computer screen, it can pret- ty much be replicated in real life - pend- ing budgetary and physical restrictions, of course.”
For many planners and event organizers, of course, budgets remain limited. To that end, Cataldi says, "With meeting and event spending still under the microscope, many of our partners have turned to new and innovative ways of gaining valuable sponsorship dollars as a way to offset the costs of the presentation production. Digital signage advertising is an alterna- tive to two-dimensional print materials. Sponsor logos and meeting information can be distributed to multiple locations
via one source and it has the ability to be revised on the fly in the digital domain.”

Wildemann. "LED video as decor and design elements has been a huge trend that allows for a wide variety of content and display configurations. With the use of LED and various moving digital display devices, video is no longer confined to the projection screen. The creativity this allows along with the use of digital graph- ical content is boundless.”
The industry has seen advancements in leaps and bounds in recent years. "Ten years ago,” Wildemann notes, "digital sound and lighting consoles were just scratching the service of most corporate and special events - now they are a must.
