In addition to its new Lenfest Plaza, PAFA features two venus in one - a choice of ele- gant landmark or lofty contemporary space. Few settings in Philadelphia can offer more gracious elegance than the gal- leries of its Historic Landmark Building, which opened in 1876 for the nation's Centennial Exposition and World's Fair. Unique architectural detail and breathtak- ing artwork make it a true jewel box setting for events of up to 180 guests for a seat- ed dinner or 400 reception-style.
PAFA's other venue, the newly renovated Samuel M. V. Hamilton Building, was orig- inally built in 1915 as an automobile man- ufacturing plant and showroom offers a contemporary space in the heart of Center City. It features a capacity of 460 people for a cocktail reception or 380 for a seated dinner. The Academy offers exclusive catering by Jimmy Duffy & Sons, as well as museum docents available to lead tours of its galleries. Student artists also are avail- able for hire to take part in special events.
A premier museum of science and innova- tion, The Franklin Institute plays host to distinctive corporate affairs within its Benjamin Franklin National Memorial. Here, a 20-foot statue of Philadelphia’s most famous forefather and inventor sits under an 82-foot high domed ceiling and gold-gilded oculus that is surrounded by 16 marble columns. On view now through January 2, 2012 at the Franklin Institute is “CSI: The Experience,” which immerses visitors in hands-on science while leading them through the challenge of solving a crime. The exhibit brings to life fundamental sci- entific principles, numerous scientific disci- plines, and the most advanced technology and techniques used today by crime scene investigators and forensic scientists.
