after having held its 25th anniversary here. Golf enthusiasts enjoyed The Centennial Cup here, too, which was held in commemoration of Shawnee's 100th anniversary this year, as well as a series of golf outings that culminated in the championship.

"People want

something different other than just a

beauty and history of the Crystal Tea Room and The Ballroom at the Ben, planners

choose them for every type of event.”

"I think the fact that we've been here for 100 years shows that we've established ourselves and built a reputation of pro- viding exceptional service to every guest at every opportunity,” said Moore. "Meeting planners should have peace of mind when booking events at Shawnee, because we've been booking meetings for so long.”

Located just 18 miles from Philadelphia is the quiet rural suburb of Valley Forge in Montgomery County. The area offers old and new themes and is especially attractive to military groups for reunions, corporations for team build- ing, and associations for leadership con- ferences. Free parking, lower taxes, cul- tural attractions, shopping and diverse dining options make it an ideal group destination.

"There's an appeal to meeting on the same hallowed ground as leaders like Washington, Hamilton and the brave colonials who were willing to sacrifice it all in the pursuit of liberty,” said David Bradley. "Today, strategic meetings can take place in full-service hotels, conven- tion properties and International Association of Conference Centers (IACC)-approved conference centers with state-of-the-art technology.”

Planners have a variety of choices, including the ACE Conference Center and Hotel, situated on 300 acres in Lafayette Hill and boasting a Gary Player-designed championship golf course. Normandy Farm Hotel and Conference Center exudes history, listed among the U.S. Department of Interior's National Register of Historic Places.

In addition, the Valley Forge area is home to the 220,000-square foot Greater Philadelphia Expo Center and nearly 7,500 first-class guest rooms. Planners can choose from more than 60 hotels,

including 15 full-service properties. More than a dozen convention facilities and five IACC-approved conference cen- ters with modern conveniences provide every option possible while still enjoy- ing all the history of the surrounding area.

Its history makes Valley Forge a signifi- cant draw for military reunions, such as the USS Brownson, which met here in May 2011. An actor portraying George Washington interpreted the first President at his original headquarters at Valley Forge National Historical Park as part of the event. The National Triplets Convention hosted a picnic in the park this summer, and children "joined" the Continental Army, drilling and marching under the direction of park rangers at the same locale where the real army once did (the Grand Parade area).

A combination of rich history and opu- lence brings to mind the Ballroom at the Ben and the Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia. Amenities and modern services give planners a winning choice for events at both of these venues. Each offers complimentary parking, in-house catering and on site coordinators for handling any type of event.

The Ballroom at the Ben has hosted an impressive list of clients and events, including the Presidential Summit 1997, the Republican National Convention and its various events in 2000, Meeting Planners International conclaves and numerous corporate meetings. Several scenes in Hollywood movies have been filmed in the Ballroom at The Ben, as well.

The sparkling Crystal Tea Room has been the centerpiece of practically every type of meeting, including Chamber of Commerce events, the Philadelphia Phillies' "Cheers to the Champs,” the Tug McGraw Fundraiser, corporate dinners and other fundrais- ers.

"People want something different other than just a ballroom,” said Kathleen E. Kelly of Finley Catering Company. "Because of the exceptional architec-
