Weasley’s Ford Anglia in which Ron and Harry fl ew to Hogwarts in the second fi lm.


“We built 15 of them,” he says. “Some with Cosworth or V6 engines, some the chil-

dren had to fall out of, one had to fl y and another was cut in half.” Many of these will be on display including the “Rambo” version that was hurled out of the forest, the model that fl ew and another for photo opportunities with wheelchair access. Other props on display include chess


pieces from the fi rst fi lm, Mad-Eye Moody’s trunk, Hagrid’s motorbike and side car, the Black’s family tapestry and Gringot’s vault door – which will have an accompany- ing fi lm showing the locks opening as it’s too intricate to have running. The print- ing press that is shown fl eetingly in The Deathly Hallows will also be on display. This is yet another example of the painstak- ing attention to detail, as the team created their own typeface for the newspaper. Visitors will learn how the animatronics


were made in the Creature Effects work- shop and get to see the house elf Dobby, Dumbledore’s phoenix Fawkes, Buckbeak the hippogriff and Aragog the giant spider suspended above them. Other artefacts include detailed wax fi g-


ures, a dementor marquette and life casts of all the main characters, which were used as body doubles or for death scenes.

Although the tour prides itself on display- ing the original props from the fi lms, some of the models, such as Dobby, are having to be remade, as they deteriorate over time. The tour has an estimated dwell time of


three hours and there is plenty to keep visi- tors, both those interested in Harry Potter and in how fi lms are made, entertained. Tickets went on sale on 13 October and


already the fi rst two months worth of week- ends have almost sold out, demonstrating the demand for this attraction. It would appear that we’re all spellbound. ●
