Bally Technologies’ Laura Olson-Reyes Talks With Roy Katz ahead of this year’s G2E
aura Olson-Reyes, Director of Corporate Communications at Bally Technologies in Las Vegas, starts with some good advice: “The best recommendation I
can give for executives doing interviews with the media is to be prepared.
“Try to get a list of the questions beforehand to have an understanding of what the interview is about. You should know something about what the publication is and what their audience or readership is, where their focus is. However, the most important thing is to be prepared!”
What is your position and responsibilities?
I’m Director of Corporate Communications at Bally Technologies, Las Vegas, NV and I am responsible for public relations and media relations as well as internal employee communications, that is how and what we communicate to our employees. I am also involved in marketing communications, graphics and design for things such as branding and advertising. I report directly to the Vice President of Marketing, Dan Savage, supporting the Bally Sales team.
Our employees are our number one asset so we do a lot internal communications with them. For example, we publish an employee magazine several times a year. We also do executive videos that we put on our company internet site so employees can access them and get business updates from our top executives. And once a year we have a communications meeting where the company’s top executives get up and speak with the employees.

What is your background? How did you get into the gaming business?
I am from the Wild West of Montana in what is called ‘Big Sky Country’. In the early 1990’s I started working for a company called United Tote Company and they made wagering systems for race tracks and they are still around today providing pari-mutuel racing and betting systems for some of the largest race tracks in the world. So that is how I got my start doing entry level public relations work at United Tote.
