second (internal) reception desk. This is a service we offer to improve our guests’ experience. As is our glass-enclosed non-smoking F&B space; this is not a legal requirement. Rather it is something we offer to improve our guests’ experience.

“Our guest profile is different from Wien as Baden attracts more tourists, so we have a higher percentage of non-locals visiting us. I would estimate our guest split as 45% local, 45% non- local Austrian, and 10% foreign. Weekdays we attract between 800 and 900 guests.

On Friday’s and Saturday’s we average 1,400 guests, increasing to 2,000 on special days, and between 3,000 and 3,500 on December 31 for our New Years Eve celebrations. We attract more new players than an average Casinos Austria property because of the number of tourists visiting the town.

“For dining, we’re more of a winter destination. That’s because of a tradition in this region called Heuriger. These are wine-taverns where local wine growers offer the recent year’s wine accompanied

by a simple food menu. The region surrounding Baden is a wine-growing area, and you can find villages close by that have over 20 of these. They are only open during the summer months.

“With the variety of facilities we offer at Grand Casino Baden, we hold a wide range of events ranging from fashion shows, live music and magic acts, through operetten (small operas) and dance shows that are on Austrian TV, to the finals of the European Poker Championship.”

It is certainly an impressive building overlooking the picturesque Kurpark in a town with a wide range of tourist facilities that is within easy travel distance from Vienna. During my stay in Baden, I noticed many foreign accents, notably East European. And from my walking around the town to get a feel for it, I would say the area has the levels of disposable income to provide significant growth opportunities for Grand Casino Baden.
