an, how did you get into the industry and what path has lead to your current position?


It’s a bit of a long story. Back in 1977 I was working in my home town Manchester, UK, for a local transport company as a trainee manager and I just happened to notice an advertisement in the jobs section of a local newspaper for experienced Roulette and Blackjack dealers in a casino. I called, explaining that I had never even been to a casino before, but I was interested in trying my hand. Fortunately, they had just started a training school and after being accepted at the interview, I started a week later as a trainee dealer at the then Pleasurama Ltd owned Soames Casino. I remember getting home and explaining to my mother and father about the sudden change in my career path and they were absolutely appalled that their son and I quote “was going to work in a den of iniquity”. Of course years later, they agreed it was the best thing I have ever done as they came to visit me in various wonderful places around the world that I later found myself working in.


After spending two years dealing in a very busy casino in Manchester and having learnt to deal American Roulette, Blackjack, Craps and Punto- Banco (now mistakenly called Baccarat ) and recently promoted to Inspector, I set off to South Africa to open Sun City Casino. Unbeknown to me, this was the start of international travel that would span the next 30 years.
