any people await the outcome of G2E with interest as a barometer for the industry. ICE is where “serious

business tends to be done” (or some would have you believe – we think it’s done year round or you are missing something!) and Asia is booming but G2E still has that prelude feel to it all – painting a picture for the coming 12 months. Let’s hope that some of the razzamatazz is back and we don’t end up with the atmosphere of “Floorex 2011” or “Paint – the International exhibition for Paints”. Some of the industry characters have retired and the party scene has been replaced by off-event canapés – so am I alone in missing some of that energy? I suppose we will know the game is over when Nick Shaw wears a tie and Australians catch the right plane to the right continent.

Keeping to the G2E theme, social networking is a common thread to many of the conference topics and it is timely that we will also be showing our App. Some of our competitors are not bothering to invest in social media (notably, one does not even have a website) whilst others are trumpeting the fact that their editor has joined Linkedin (snooze) or have launched “their magazine on an Ipad” but in reality this (pause for effect) just enables you to read their magazine on an Ipad. Some, are just lying to you – Yes, you can read their magazine as a PDF. How interesting. Our app ‘appens to be a bit special and carries a news portal, events programme, product launches – plus you can read the magazine and join the dedicated forum. Apple are a bit worried we may also be gambling with it (perish the thought) so they are busy under the bonnet checking it out but the Beta version should be up for the show so please stop us for a demo. Hats off to our Web and IT gurus Sudip and Vasyl who are accredited Apple developers and made it fly.

As we go to press we almost have Slot Summit dates for next year with Germany in March and France in September so it is worth checking out

www.slotsummit.com for further details as they become available. Casino Life is the International partner for the events and we are looking forward to working closely with local media and sponsors to maximize their coverage as well as working alongside organizations such as the ECA and NCIF to help promote slot training to their members.

Finally, spare a thought for Peter White, my business partner who is, as I write this, about to tee off at Wentworth as a guest at the annual CHIPS charity golf tournament. The weather apparently is rainy, gusting and they may have to abandon the golf, sit drinking beer in the clubhouse and chat about casinos all day. It’s a hard life.
