TITO or move to a card cashless system. There are obviously pros and cons for both. When the time is right we want to make sure we buy the right system not just in terms of what a system offers from a technical standpoint but also what will best suit our local market. Our slots management has extensive experience with both SIP (Systems in Progress) and ACE (South African cashless system) and both have been reviewed as potential future products for this market.

How closely does your marketing team work with your slot manager on slot promotions?

The marketing department works closely with all operational facets of casino operations and obviously the slots is very much a key area. We constantly run a loyalty promotion by way of a slots lottery, which is held twice weekly, giving away cash prizes and our marketing people are very much involved in that process. The slots marketing budget is constantly being assessed and the effects of the various advertising campaigns monitored. The marketing team recently did a pretty comprehensive survey with the slots players asking them a whole range of questions. I must admit some of the data gained from the players responses was a little surprising,

but I suppose that’s the whole point of a survey; the intention is to learn something and allow our customers to see and feel the difference. It enabled us to make some positive changes.

Finally, when you are not at work – how do you relax?

I must admit that my favourite pastime is eating out and having a glass of wine or two and Tbilisi is not a bad place to do that. Whilst there are many international restaurants available, the local Georgian cuisine is my favourite. It’s varied with many interesting and delicious dishes. The Georgians also produce some fabulous wines, red and white alike. It’s not all eating and drinking though, Georgia also has some great outdoor sports venues. Last winter I managed to spend several days skiing in a resort just a couple of hours drive from Tbilisi and I was pleasantly surprised to find some great ski runs all with modern Austrian lifts. I also plan do some white water rafting through the summer and a friend told me recently that he had discovered a lake where you can fly fish for trout- that sounds pretty interesting too. What I miss the most and what would be great in Tbilisi now is a golf course.
