that’s ENTERTAINMENT
BATRIDER have released their new album Piles of Lies, a 16- song off ering about terse and joyous times. Recorded with Kynan Lawlor in Adelaide after the
band returned to Australia broke and manic, Piles of Lies is unmistakably Batrider – vaguely New Zealand-sounding, indelibly by people who remember the ’90s, irritated and amused, depressed and fantastic. The fi rst release as a three-piece consists of the band’s
fi nest songwriting to date and somehow gains power and immediacy with the more stripped-back line-up. Formed in Wellington, New Zealand in 2002, Batrider have gone through a number of line-up changes to become
a trio with Sarah Chadwick, Sam Featherstone and Stephanie Crase. Batrider have released several critically acclaimed
albums, including Tara and Why We Can’t Be Together, numerous EPs and vinyls, and have toured Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the US repeatedly. Described as both beautiful and abhorrent, acidic yet
hopeful, the sound of Batrider is one of considered noise and marked by brutal and passionate songwriting that has become a live favourite. Batrider will launch their new album at Emma Soup in Hunter Street, Newcastle, on Friday, August 19.
