that’s ENTERTAINMENT Still workin’ it hard
STORMCELLAR are undoubtedly one of the hardest-working bands in the country. With music based solidly in blues, roots and
country, Stormcellar combines infl uences from the likes of Canned Heat and Creedence. They maintain a songwriting focus and
prolifi c output rate, with two albums of original material released in 2010. Crossing genres and styles, Stormcellar
have been equally at home at blues festivals, Tamworth country music festival, Acer Arena and a year as support act for legendary
Australian rockers the Radiators. Nuevo Retro reached number one on the
Australian roots chart and has received massive air play. It also recently entered the US national
blues chart, receiving airplay on more than 160 stations across the States. Their second release of 2010 Carl’s Chair has
also garnered massive support on the airwaves. To hear why their popularity continues to
grow, see them at the Wickham Park Hotel on Sunday, September 4.
Me, you and music short ‘n’SWEET short ‘n’SWEET Method in their madness
WITH three critically acclaimed albums to their name, hundreds of gigs under their belt and a career spanning more than 15 years, roots-rock duo Method describe their music as a “rootsy acoustic groove”. Guitarist Bill Jacobi is a popular solo performer in and around the Northern Rivers region of NSW. With open-tuned and lap slide guitars twisting their way around evocative sound scapes and passionate song writing, Jacobi really knows how to enthral an audience. He is joined by drummer Frank Corby, who was most recently
seen pounding the skins for legendary blues band the Bondi Cigars. Corby is also a notable songwriter, adding a rich tapestry of rhythm and texture as well as his dark vocals and lyrical twists to the mix. Together, they make music that is an eclectic amalgamation of swamp-roots, alternative country and hillbilly funk – music that somehow manages to look back at a wealth of musical tradition, have a good poke around and then turn and run the other way.
Catch Method when they play at the
Ocean View Hotel, Dudley on Saturday, August 20.

August 19. short ‘n’SWEET Get loony by the lake
HOT on the heels of its much-lauded debut single In the Summer, Melbourne fi ve-piece Loon Lake are back with a new single I Loved You Then, taken from the acclaimed EP Not Just Friends. I Loved You Then is a sunny, garage-
inspired pop track that demonstrates that indie rock can still have soul, grit and spunk, while retaining an inherent pop sensibility. Armed with some infectious pop hooks,
and to celebrate the release of I Loved You Then, Loon Lake will be hitting the road in August on their fi rst-ever headlining tour. Having completely sold out their EP launch in Melbourne, and being invited to support Red Riders in Melbourne and Sydney on their monumental last-ever shows, Loon Lake has already earned themselves a reputation as a must-see live band. Catch Loon Lake when they
play at CBD Hotel on Friday, August 19.
