No bones ABOUT IT
ONE hot November night, a motley crew of unknown musicians stumbled out into the rainy Newcastle streets. All St Vinnie’s suits, beads and Dia de los
Muertos sugar skull face paint, tequila in hand they proceeded to turn the old coal port town into a hotbed of dirty grooves and soulful harmonies where no one could resist the call to dance the grim fandango. They would, from that point forward, be
known as Bones Jones and the Skeletones. Bones Jones and the Skeletones draws
on the diverse musical backgrounds of its members. From brass bands to surf rock to screaming metal guitar to the sweetest of barbershop harmonies, the four Skeletones blend their
styles to create something that is truly their own. At each show, the band paints up Dia de
los Muertos style and brings the holiday’s celebration of life and death to the stage. This four-piece makes their mark on classics and turns unsuspecting songs on their heads, as well as churning out a string of original grooves. Since fi rst taking to the stage in November
2010, Bones Jones and the Skeletones have had the pleasure of performing alongside local favourites Zoe K and The Hatty Fatners at some of Newcastle’s best live music venues. And now, their talent has them as the
opening act for US slide guitar guru Bob Log III at Hotel CBD on Thursday, August 18.

SPANNING generations
of
BYEBYEBIRDY fi rst came to the Newcastle music scene about two years ago, when three school mates formed up to compete in their school battle of the bands and came fourth in the fi nal. Soon after, they became a bluesy
rock with an indie feel and then won the competition the following year. Then came gigs at Lizotte’s, Cambridge Hotel, Chili Lounge (Wyong), Slam Factory (Tuggerah), Genr8r (Belmont), the Wickham Park Hotel and the Beaches Hotel. At the moment, ByeByeBirdy is in the midst of choosing a fourth member for the lead guitar. ByeByeBirdy have a fan base of more than 300 people and can ensure a great live music atmosphere in any room they perform in. They look forward to seeing all your faces at their latest gigs. Catch them at Hotel CBD on Friday, August 19, supporting Loon Lake.

Boys are on fi re
ON the eve of releasing their debut album Moonfi re, Boy & Bear are hitting the road. The Moonfi re tour will kick off in early
November and will have them not only take in capital cities, but also a number for
regional centres. Along with their With Emperor Antarctica

And if the emotion
stirred on the debut is anything to go by, these shows are set to be honest and passionate aff airs. The last time the band
were on the road, the entire tour sold out, so it would be best to get in quickly and avoid missing out.
They will play at
