businessmen. Tey moved from the hectic city life of mainland to the tropical island of Hainan three years ago. Having found affordable beachfront property, they soon realized they had to stay. Te calming ocean, waves and beach lifestyle was easy to get used to. Tey realized a great business concept they could sell, and have fun doing it, plus escaped to a beter quality of life. Tey were now surfing, free souls amidst a new generation. No more traffic, no more desk jobs, and they really enjoyed it. Te first international beach resort, hotel and extreme sports school is now in operation thanks to the open minds of the new surfing generation in China. Friends of friends, and friends of their friends soon made an effort to visit our beachfront hotel which they built from scratch and has now become the Nanuna Resort and GravityCartel Pro Center. Soon enough, destiny brought Steven Reynolds, Canadian native and hotelier into the mix. Steven spoke fluent Chinese, and had over 12 years living on the island surfing and living a dream, as he calls it. Steve took the Nanuna project by the horns, and has built up a great concept. last December, called “Way Out East”, which covered the adventures of a team of European board brands in China, essentially first phase of the Hainan Surf Project. Te China consultants at GravityCartel / Mandarin Star China are now back with “phase two”. A month of travel, business networking, meetings and pure Asian adventure at its best. Te exploration team consisted of business owners and representatives from Lidearth Kiteboarding (France), Future Kiting (Czech Republic), Nanuna Pro-Center & Beach Resort (Hainan-China) and GravityCartel (Hawaii-China-Sweden- India-Spain). In addition, we also had Oxbow Europe (France) and IOSUP (Spain-Hawaii), Agent Eighteen Australia, IndoDreamin (Bali-China) and SiargaoRoots (Philippines) as silent members stalking the China market geting ready to make a decision to enter.

We stopped by boardsport factories in the Pearl River Delta, all manufacturing high end products for the European, Australian and US markets. New products, new technologies, expansion on existing production lines, and new collaborations were all brought up during our days there. Tis was just the start of the journey. As our final days unfolded, we were headed out to the tropical


island of Hainan. Tat’s where GravityCartel and Nanuna Beach Club Pro-Center have its resort and beach hotel, in the quiet bay of Hou Hai, 25 minutes from Sanya. It’s away from the city, yet still so close. Located on the beach, the resort boasts room for 30 plus people.
