We always like to look our best for The Great Harwood Show. Monday 30th May.
The Month of May is National Share a Story Month and who better to tell a story than the gentleman born in May, Edward Lear. Here’s one.
The Owl and the Pussycat
The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea, in a beautiful pea green boat, They took some honey, and plenty of money, Wrapped up in a five pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above, and sang to a small guitar,
'O lovely Pussy! O Pussy my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are, You are! What a beautiful Pussy you are!'
Pussy said to the Owl, 'You elegant fowl! How charmingly sweet you sing!
O let us be married! too long we have tarried: But what shall we do for a ring?'
They sailed away, for a year and a day, To the land where the Bong-tree grows And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood
With a ring at the end of his nose, his nose, With a ring at the end of his nose.
'Dear pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling Your ring?' Said the Piggy, 'I will.'
So they took it away, and were married next day By the Turkey who lives on the hill.
They dined on mince, and slices of quince, Which they ate with a runcible spoon; And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,
They danced by the light of the moon, the moon, They danced by the light of the moon.
LANCASHIRE BUSINESS WINS NATIONAL AWARD FOR WORK IN HELPING VICTIMS OF FLOOD AND FIRE. A LANCASHIRE business has been recognised for its excellence in providing disaster restoration services to businesses and homes with a national award. Disaster recovery and cleaning specialist Rainbow International has named husband and wife team Ian and Vivienne Pearce as recipients of the company’s Franchisee of the Month award. The award comes after the couple and their team have helped 230 families and businesses to restore their homes and premises after a series of burst pipes and water tanks in the first two months of the year. From their rapid-response unit in Norman Road, Oswaldtwistle the team provides specialist disaster restoration and cleaning services to homes and businesses across a range of towns including Accrington, Darwen, Burnley, Todmorden, Rochdale and Oldham. Since starting the business seven years ago, Ian and Vivienne have doubled their workforce and taken turnover from £97,000 to £600,000. They moved into their current 7,000 sq ft premises in 2007 in order to expand the range of services on offer to customers including a commercial laundry, an upholstery service and special workshops for cleaning smoke damaged goods. Ian and Vivienne were chosen from 100 franchises in the Rainbow International UK network to win the award. Ian said: "It's always satisfying to be recognised for your efforts and this award is for the whole team here. We were working flat out helping families whose homes had been flooded by burst pipes - it was non stop for two months but we were just pleased we were able to help so many people when they needed it most.". Rainbow International specialises in restoring homes and businesses following fire, flood or accidental damage, as well as providing a commercial and domestic cleaning service. The network is used by the UK’s leading insurance and loss adjusting companies who demand the highest standards, as well as working for many national, regional and local commercial organisations. Phil Else, Managing Director of Rainbow International, said: “Ian and Vivienne are an example of the drive and focus needed to develop a cost-effective business. They have always understood the importance of working within the Rainbow network and are extremely positive, in all situations.” Rainbow International Burnley, Oldham, Rochdale and surrounding areas can be contacted on 01254 381777.
Reality is only an illusion that occurs due to a lack of alcohol.
Archimedes, the well known truth-seeker,
Jumping out of his bath, cried "Eureka!"
He ran half a mile, Wearing only a smile,
And became the worlds very first streaker.
