Great Harwood Show
Latest information from the organisers. The road around the showground has been much improved and the on-site parking includes spaces for the disabled, as near to the entrance as possible. Visitors are asked to avoid obstructing access in the residential areas, and not to park on the grass areas outside the showground, or on the road alongside the ground, as these areas will be patrolled and there is plenty of official parking room available.
Watch the birds of prey fly; you can even handle them. There will be two flying displays in the main arena during the day.
The Blazing Saddles displays in the main arena will include barrel racing, trick riding and dressage movements. The horses which belong to the team are nearly all rescued from going to slaughter and/or have been badly mistreated. They are now treated and trained so well that they will do almost anything for their riders, including sitting and lying down, Spanish walking, passage and piaffe.
See the tiny Pygmy Goats, watch the sheepdog trials, the trail race, and the horseshoe making competition, then see the horses shod with the new shoes.
Try your hand at wellie throwing, make up a team for the Tug of War, or have a go at the trail race.
Don't miss the Galloping Grannies stand in the market area. Whether you have ridden before or never even been near a horse, if you would like to try a new way of keeping fit this could be your chance to try it out. GG are looking for new members, 50+ yrs, male or female. Come and get information about the group and buy a few butterfly-friendly or herb plants while you're there.
With even more stands this year there is something for everyone. Hand made jewellery, toys and wooden items. Plants and pet products, an artist and photographer, hand built furniture, animal housing and books. Horse & dog equipment.
We have moved away from the usual fast food stalls, and now offer a huge choice of meals and snacks, of high quality and mostly made using local produce, catering for all diets including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and diabetic. Try locally produced cheeses, pies or sausages; there is a large range of home made preserves to enhance them. For the traditional - how about black puddings, and black peas. For the adventurous - ostrich, bison, kangaroo and more exotic produce. For those with a sweet tooth - pancakes and doughnuts, candy floss and fudge, home made ice cream (with some flavours you have probably never seen before) and a luxurious chocolate fountain. To finish off, try a cup of freshly ground coffee or a refreshing cup of tea. Traditional sarsaparilla and dandelion and burdock are available, as well as fresh fruit juices and soft drinks, or a cold glass of wine, beer or lager for the adults. Back to basics, our toilet facilities have been greatly improved.
