With the wrap up of the Thoroughbred Racing Season in Canada, The Jockey Club of Canada would like to remind everyone that the Sovereign Awards Ceremony has a new date and venue.


The Jockey Club of Canada will host their


36th Annual Sovereign Awards Ceremony to honour the Canadian Champions of 2010, on Friday, April 1, 2011, on the third floor of Woodbine Race Track in Toronto, Woodbine Entertainment Group will join in the celebration as they get ready to kick-off their 2011 Live


Thoroughbred meet on Saturday, April 2, a date which represents the start of thoroughbred rac- ing in Canada.


along with the evening’s feature event, the presenta- tion of the Sovereign Award Trophies to Canada’s Racing Champions of 2010.


This elegant cocktail-attire celebration will include a welcome back reception, a buffet-style gourmet dinner, and thrilling entertainment


To promote equal opportunity in determining the winners of the 17 award categories as well as the four media award categories, the voting will commence January 1, 2011 and the nominees in each category will be announced in a press release on January 26, 2011.


The Jockey Club of Canada would also like to remind all writers, photographers and broadcasters that the deadline for the Sovereign Award Media Submissions is 1:00pm (EST) on Thursday, Decem- ber 30, 2010.


The Jockey Club of Canada was founded in 1973 by E.P. Taylor to serve as the international representative of the Canadian Thoroughbred indus- try and to promote improvements to Thoroughbred racing and breeding, both in Canada and interna- tionally. The Jockey Club of Canada also operates as a field office of The Jockey Club (New York); organizes the Sovereign Awards; administers the Canadian Graded Stakes program; liaises with for- eign Jockey Clubs; promotes Thoroughbred owner- ship; and represents Canada at international racing conferences.

Woman’s Horse Industry Association


Appoints Lucie Burdon- Sereda Toronto Canada Director


The Women’s Horse Industry Association has announced the appointment of Lucie Burdon-Sereda as the Toronto, Canada chapter director. In addition to being the contact point for women in the Toronto, Ontario area, she will serve as a co-chairperson for the 2011 WHIA CANADIAN CONFERENCE in March, 2011. Information about this event can be found on the WHIA’s Canadian website: www.canadianwomenshorseindustry.com An avid horsewoman, her dedication and pas- sion for horses has led her to work with top trainers and coaches such as Udo Lange, Christilot Boylen and Melissa Taylor. She owns a private equine facility which she uses to host educational seminars through Agribrands Purina and has offered visitation and rides to the children visiting from White Russia. She is experienced at regional and national levels of dressage and hopes to further her riding skills to be able to compete in Germany one day against the best of the best.


As an owner of J’Equine Sport and EBPM accreditation, her company offers a web-based ser- vice that provides individuals involved in the equestrian field a venue to read about and rate equestrian facilities, riding instructors, coaches, trainers, horse traders, equine veterinarians, farriers and other equine service providers worldwide. She believes that the standards in the equestrian field need to be raised and this type of web-based busi- ness will help to achieve this goal.


She is a graduate of Brock University with additional studies at the University of Guelph where she earned an Equine Science Certificate “with Dis- tinction”. Her studies have included Equine Mas- sage Therapy, Equine Journalism and Equine Busi- ness Management. She is a platinum industry mem- ber of the O.E.F. (Ontario Equestrian Federation), E.C. (Equine Canada), RARPA (rating and review professional association), BBB (better business bureau), WHIA and AETA.
