The Ontario Quarter Horse Association would like to Congratu- late Miss Lindsay Allen of London, Ontario, the 2010 Ontario Quarter Horse Association Queen on her achievements in the 2010 All Ameri- can Quarter Horse Congress Queen Contest. Allen, age twenty was the sole Canadian entered in the compe- tition representing her home province of Ontario. There were twenty-five young ladies entered in the contest this year, all of whom are established horsewomen in their own right. The contest kicked off on Octo- ber 12th, with a formal dinner and the introduction of the young women competing for the 2010 crown. Each contestant was asked an impromptu question by the reigning 2009 Congress Queen, Miss Ashley Cook of Tilbury, Ontario. Miss Allen’s question was; “If you could be on the cover of any magazine which maga- zine would you want to be on and why?” Lindsay dressed in a beautiful white jacket embellished with red maple leafs and rhinestones,
answered, with ease; “Oprah’s maga- zine because of the positive message it sends to women.”
manship, and finishing eighth over- all.
The next few days of the Queen Competition were filled with a style show called; “Couture for the Cure”, an autograph signing session, meet- ing with vendors and Congress spon- sors, selling raffle tickets on a pair of limited edition “breast cancer aware- ness boots”, and handing out awards, all of these events and duties sup- porting their actual contest require- ments.
There are three components to the actual competition which deter- mines who will wear the Congress Crown. The oral interview worth forty percent of the final score, the written test on the rules of the Amer- ican Quarter Horse Association, also worth forty percent, and the horse- manship class, which rounds out the final twenty percent of the total. Miss Allen was successful in all three areas of the competition, placing fourth in the oral interview, twelfth in the written test, forth in the horse-
“Canadians, should be very proud of this young lady” said Ontario Queen Committee chair Debbie Haughton, “I don’t think that generally people consider the amount of time and effort that is put into preparing one’s self for a competi- tion such as this. Ontario is one of the few AQHA affiliates that still maintains a proper program, and actually supports their candidates. Our contest would be lost without the incredible people who support our Queens each year.”
One such family who went above and beyond this year to sup- port Lindsay’s dream of competing in the Congress Queen contest, were the O’Donnell’s of Delaware, ON. Vonda & Ken traveled the four plus hours from their home in western Ontario to Columbus Ohio, with a very special horse in tow, BSB Don’t Ask Me, affectionately known as “Leroy”. The Congress Champion gelding bred and raised by the

O’Donnell’s, competed in just one class this year at Congress, the Queen’s Horsemanship. “Leroy is one of those horses that has his own fan club” said Laurie Haughton member of the OQHA Queen Committee, “words alone can’t express the respect I have for Vonda & Ken for the support they have shown our Queen’s over the past three years, they are truly important and indispensable members of our ‘Ontario Queen Team’ - everyone knows and cheers for ‘Leroy’, and when you combined that with Lindsay’s likeability and talents, we just knew we had a star team.”
