Mayor of Hyndburn. Councillor Malcolm Pritchard. There’s a festive feeling in the air at the Mayor’s office at the moment. I don’t think Irene and I have ever eaten as many mince pies, and there’s more to come as we attend lots more Christmas parties in the coming weeks. We are really looking forward to visiting schools and watching their Christmas performances. November was a really busy month, especially Remembrance Sunday when Irene and I attended five Remembrance Sunday services and events in one day. It was heart warming to see so many people turn out to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. I’ve also been present at the opening of no fewer than three new stores in Accrington, Robertson’s Reef and Reptiles on Whalley Road, Store Twenty One on Broadway, Accrington and finally the new Tesco. Its great to see new businesses coming into the area and what’s more they each made a generous donation to the Mayor’s charity. Speaking of the charity we have been working our socks off organising events and I must send a big thank you to all my charity committee members for their hard work and dedication. Honorary Alderman and former Mayor, Sandra Hayes organised a great night at the Golden Cross pub, Oswaldtwistle which raised £470.00 for the charity. The landlord & landlady, Michael and Paula were great hosts and generously covered the cost of the disco. We are all working hard now on our Christmas Extravaganza which takes place in Accrington on Saturday 4th December 2010. There will be a reindeer parade on Broadway starting at 10.30 a.m. and a food and craft fair in the town hall all day. Over 30 stalls will be there selling lovely individual items so please come down and support the event. The Accrington Boys Brigade Band will be playing carols and Christmas music on Monday the 13th of December at 7.30 pm at Trinity Church King Street, Gt Harwood. Entrance at the door or from 01254- 877388 £3.00 including coffee and mince pie. Come along join in the festivities and get in the mood for Christmas.
