Bobby’s Blog This month we introduce a new column from the Local Police Community Beat Officer, to bring Herald readers the latest on the streets, and help keep us safe.
Bogus Post / Parcel warning Residents to be aware of a recently reported post / parcel type delivery scam. Victims receive a message card through their letter box informing them the post / parcel com- pany attempted to deliver an item but the occupants were out. The victim is then advised to telephone a number on the card to make alternative arrangements. The victim later receives a phone bill for £300.00. It is believed the company telephone number is based in a foreign country. Residents are advised that if they suspect they have received a suspect postal card to contact directory enquiries to confirm that the telephone number corresponds to a legitimate business. Bogus companies of this nature can be reported to Trading Standards on their Consumer Direct line - telephone number: 0845 4040506 or to the police on the numbers below.
Xmas Burglary warning At this time of year coming up to the Christmas period, there can be an increase on thefts and burglaries. Police have received recent reports of burglaries in Great Harwood, in particular around the Lyndon Court, Whalley Rd, Mill Lane and Harwood Bar area. Please be re-assured that a dedicated police burglary team are investigating these crimes. Therefore we ask that residents securely lock all their windows and doors of their properties and if out to install light timers in order to prevent their properties appearing in total darkness. We also ask at this time of the year to also check the safety and welfare of any possibly elderly vulnerable neighbours. We also advice that any property in particular Xmas presents be out of view from lounge windows and items left in vehicles be placed out of site in the boots. If anybody wishes to report any matters relating to the above or any suspicious incidents in particular relating to possible burglaries please contact the numbers below.
