As the recession hits our pockets and prices rise, it is doing the same for the EMAÚS Association. The Association is most well known for its Children’s Homes. At present they have 140 children in their care with an age range of 4 months to nearly
18 years.
What a lot of the general public don’t realise is that EMAÚS also has a house for the destitute elderly of Altea, orphaned “boat children”, critically ill Saharan children and a home for the mentally handicapped. The Association, “Friends of the Children of EMAÚS” fund raise specifically for the children in care in the local homes. The numbers waiting to enter the homes is growing as families become destitute and are no longer capable of feeding and clothing their children. But as you well know it is not just the man in the street who is affected by the recession. Unfortunately the powers that be are also without money and therefore behind on their payments of grants to EMAÚS, the money of which the association relies on so much. We were asked if we could buy a new computer for the Relleu Centre, as from their offices they run a home for 11 children, and a large home for the mentally handicapped and a Day Centre for the elderly. We were delighted that at the same time we got this request Noel Eastwell and Bay Radio came up with the idea of doing a sponsored Golf Tournament on the 22nd We also have our BBQ event on the 11th
of September. of September. With this money we hope to pay towards the enormous bill for school
books and equipment the EMAÚS Association has to pay at the beginning of each new school year, an amount last year that was nearly 8,000 euros. In the autumn our fund raising will be paying for winter clothes and shoes.
We rely heavily on the wonderful effort of Lesley Clark’s Christmas Gift Fair, at the Denia Marriott, to help pay the bill for the children’s Christmas presents – See advert below for further information.
A big thank you to all those that have been donating and fund raising for us. Please don’t stop, our need is greater than ever. For more information please visit:
