Female Focus The iPad, Hype or Reality by AG

It wasn’t so long ago that everyone was talking about the iPad. Apple’s ‘magical’ new device that was going to change the world. You may recall that I had a chance to play with one, but not for long. So, what is it like in reality, a load of hype, or a real game changer? I’ve been using one for 3 months now, so let’s see!

First impressions were that it was nice, but not really useful. Everyone who has one seems to go through this for about a week, not really being able to pinpoint its value. But after a week, when you get used to having it, you start turning to it for loads of things. Here’s what I use mine for...

Email and web browsing ‘on-the- go’. I opted for the model which could receive data over 3G which means I can connect anywhere. If you’re doing business on the move, that’s a real benefit. You don’t get behind with your emails... ever!

Calendar and Contacts are easy to hand and can sync over the internet back to my home computer, without having to be there!

At work, we need to do call-reports, a short resume of sales calls. Pen and paper followed up by an hour or two in the evening on the computer have been replaced by a simple iPad form. It takes a minute to jot down the report, and it’s instantly

collated on a central spreadsheet. If longer notes are needed, I use an App called Evernote. You can jot down ideas, websites, images, etc all in one place, and refer back to them later. Of course, there’s domestic use as well. I read e-books, check the news, look at night sky maps by just pointing at the sky, check my facebook account, play music, trade on eBay, see F1 live timing, check the weather, Skype my family, look at photos, watch movies and even play a few games.

In my opinion, it surpasses the hype and everyone I show it to wants one. If you want to see one, they have them in Media Markt, El Corte Ingles and K-Tuin (check internet for your local branch).

Of course, an internet connection with a WiFi router is essential, and for that, you probably know by now, I use Telitec (see ad on back page). Simple, easy and with support in English, it’s excellent value for money and works in places even when Telefonica says no!
