your horses! The 2010 show season is about to begin!

Ladies and gentlemen, start

The Eastern Ontario Quar- ter Horse Association show sea- son is about to get underway with a newly expanded Spring Fling. An additional day has been added to the roster. Show dates at the Carp fairground will be May 27 through 30 with Don Coats and Dana English judging the May27-28th shows and Mari- lynn Randall and MaryAnn Willoughby judging the 29-30th shows. Don’t forget to reserve your stalls now as they are filling up quickly. Stalls can be reserved by email at:

eoqhastalls@hotmail.com or by calling 613-294-4715, but you should download the stall reser- vation form off the website and send it in with your payment as well.

But you can’t come to Carp and only expect to show your horses when we have all kinds of fun events planned for those after show hours! The EOQHA Youth Team will be selling hoodies, t-shirts and golf shirts, a good way to help our youth and to show your allegiance to the EOQHA. A booth where you can order your garment of choice will be set up on the fairgrounds, be sure to keep your eyes open for it.

Bone up on your showman- ship abilities and prepare to show off your skills as one of the real highlight fun events will be the Shankless Showmanship Chal-

lenge. Horses are to be shown without a shank (only a loose loop of binder twine will be attached for safety sake). Cost of participating $15.00. Entries are to be jackpotted with the winner receiving 30%, second place get- ting 20% and the remainder going to the Youth Team. Com- petitions will be held Friday the 28th , an hour and half after the end of the show. So bone up on your showmanship skills, tighten up those pivots and be prepared to shine!

Two are Named Top Professional Trainers During

AQHA Annual Convention

The American Quarter Horse Journal, March 23, 2010 – During the AQHA Annual Con- vention in Kissimmee, Florida, two professionals were chosen as the best by their peers. Dianne Eppers of Grayslake, Illinois, was named the Professional’s Choice Pro- fessional Horsewoman of the Year. Jeffrey Pait of Sparta, New Jersey, was named Profes- sional’s Choice Professional Horseman of the Year.

with a horse. It’s a way of life. I love being around them every day.”

In addition to competing, Pait leads clinics and conducts lectures about horses to educate new horse owners and 4-H and other youth groups.

Besides being an AQHA Professional Horseman, Pait is an AQHA judge known for his kindness to less-experienced competitors.

The award, sponsored by AQHA Corporate Partner Pro- fessional’s Choice, is voted on by AQHA’s Professional Horse- men Association members and is a surprise to the recipients. The award comes with a ring to com- memorate the occasion.

“Being Professional’s Choice Professional Horsewom- an of the Year is an honor, but more importantly, it is an honor to be a Professional Horseman,” Eppers said. “I have spent many years sharing my enjoyment with newcomers in the business, so to be a person who opens the door to new clients in the indus- try is a pleasure.”

Jeffrey Pait

Pait works for Cofrancesco Farms as resident trainer, a posi- tion he has held for 25 years. His focus is western pleasure and halter. He has made five AQHA Champions and has trained 11 world champions. He has also coached many youth and ama- teur exhibitors to world champi- onships.

“It is such an honor to be picked by your peers,” Pait said. “Words can’t describe it. It’s overwhelming. All my life, everything I’ve done has been

reserve your tickets now by contacting Cheryl Norris at: Snappysdevil@aol.com or Sheryl Chillson at: schillson@rim.com . We need to know how many are coming in advance to reserve sufficient food and drink for the evening. Along with the awards, there will be a silent auction held during the dinner and throughout the evening. We are looking for items to be donat- ed, please see a member of the Board earlier in the weekend to donate your item. In past years there have been some excellent things donated and that were scooped up a great price, so don’t miss out on your oppor- tunity to pick something up. The Awards banquet is also the EOQHA’s chance to honour members for long- time involvement and to recognize the effort of par- ticular individuals for the volunteer work they do for others or our club, whether at the shows or throughout the year. The Awards that will be presented are: The Bill Borland Award, donated by the Hitsman family, honours those who are always will- ing to help, go the extra mile and demonstrate exceptional team work.

Scott McGuire Water Service

Previous winners are: in 2007- The Wakley’s, and in 2008- John Cooney.

The Goodwill Award, ini- tially donated by Bonnie Cameron and Dan Donohue, to an individual or family who contributes willingly and unasked to the EOQHA by helping out in anyway they can to make things run smoothly; be it handing out ribbons, help- ing with functions, setting up obstacles in the ring, or for social functions, delivering shavings, or even cleaning out stalls. They volunteer and pitch in wherever and whenever needed. Previous winners are: 2007- Catlin Gifford and in 2008-Dave Runtz.

Last but not least, the Hall of Fame will also receive a

new inductee. This program was designed to recognize the men and women who have played a vital role in the devel- opment of the Eastern Ontario Quarter Horse Association. The 2008 awards banquet was the occasion for the announce- ment of the first three award recipients: Bill Borland, Roger Quesnel and Dave Quesnel. For more information on this and the other awards, please check out our website at: www.eoqha.com.

So mark the 27-30th of May on your calendar, grease up the trailer and get the last of the winter hair off your horse because you won’t want to miss EOQHA’s Spring Fling in Carp!
