It’s funny how things change as we grow older. Holidays are a perfect example. As chil-
dren, holidays meant no school, great toys, costumes, delicious food and fun traditions.
But as adults we get few paid holidays, the toys have become clothes and a huge feast loses
its appeal when we’re the ones slaving in the kitchen all day. Easter is one of those holidays
that changes but is still fun for us as we get older, in a different way. When we are kids, April
is all about Easter baskets, chocolate bunnies and of course, Easter eggs. At this age, we
don’t question how colored Easter eggs come from a male bunny, but I blame this on why I
failed high school biology. Still, we have a lot of fun running around in the Easter egg hunt
after church or after we wake up and have breakfast. The one big difference between the
Easters I remember and the way some of you gringos do it, is we never boiled our eggs. That
seems like such a strange tradition to me. We used to hollow ours out and fill them with
confetti. Then after the egg hunt, we would crush them over each other’s heads.
These days, we don’t get many Easter baskets, and chocolate bunnies have too many
calories, but on the other hand, every Easter we get to go to the White Party in Palm Springs.
I remember my first White Party. It was 2002 and the theme was the Palace of Versailles and
Jennifer Lopez was the big surprise performer. J-Lo performed “Waiting for Tonight” while
all the hot guys decked out in white shook their tight, pert bodies. That weekend I went
to the tea dance and the pool party, which featured enough beef for me to open my own
butcher shop. I don’t know about you but being surrounded by so many happy gay men
Daisy anD Ruby’s
and seeing them enjoy themselves makes me so happy… I want to cry.
This year promises to be one of the best White Parties so don’t miss it. The theme is
ADVENTURES
“Legion of Superheroes” so grab your white cape and duck into the nearest phone booth
to transform into your super sexy alter ego. This year is the party’s 20th anniversary and it
takes place April 10-13. I’m trying to decide whether I want to go as She-Ra or an all-white
version of Wonder Woman. I’ll be staying with my good friends Marcus and Robert, who
are absolutely the best hosts in town.
The whole weekend will feature a number of amazing performers this year. The always-
sexy Candis Cayne will be performing at the pool party and the fabulous Kat Deluna will
be performing at the tea dance. The White Party itself will feature the hottest headliner of
the weekend, the dazzling Lady Gaga! I was fortunate enough to catch her concert at the
House of Blues here in San Diego and all I can say is that she is magically delicious. So I’m
definitely looking forward to seeing what she will do at a venue the size of the White Party.
If you don’t have your tickets for the weekend already, get them before they’re
all gone. Just go to
www.jeffreysanker.com and buy them online. Just remember,
have fun, but be safe!

MARch
Did you remember to wear green for St. Patrick’s Day? The Irish celebration was just one
of the many highlights of the month of March.
March was a big month for theatre. Early in the month I went to the Grease performance
by former American Idol, Taylor Hicks. I’ve always had a thing for older daddy guys especially
if they look so good in tight pants and Grease has always been one of my favorite shows. My
mom owned the original soundtrack on vinyl, so I knew all the songs by heart.
RENT came to town with a very talented cast that included original cast members Adam
Pascal, Anthony Rapp as well as the original “Seasons Of Love” soloist Gwen Stewart. I
love RENT. I remember when the show first opened in New York and all the buzz it created
because many of the stories in the show were important and about the gay community.
The biggest event for me though was Lady Gaga’s kick-off concert at House of Blues. She
kicked off her tour here in San Diego with a packed house and a concert that was out of this
world. The Lady can sing and she dazzled the audience with visuals, dancers and talent. It
was great to see real talent on stage as opposed to the usual lip synching acts.
