ABOVE: In January 2003, I captured Rio Grande 3126 and caboose down at the depot in Colorado Springs, Colo., awaiting the next day’s call to switch out the former Rock Island trackage around town. I loved to experiment with double exposures, especially with a full moon, because you could really capture a lot of detail and the end result was usually worth the effort.
ABOVE LEFT: The large neon Rio Grande sign atop of the restored Salt Lake City depot made a perfect subject for night photography. ABOVE RIGHT: The Union Pacific’s Montrose Local departs Delta, Colo., into the setting sun at the end of a long day’s work in March 2002.
